My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi, I'm Tony; temporarily in Birmingham UK, gluing my career back together ("nearly done...") after an enthusiastic UK/US redundancy/divorce farrago. I'm a little more cautious than I used to be, but not -- I hope -- cynical or bitter :)

Naturally optimistic, slightly-slapstick wordy geek / text-maniac, honest, reasonably well-travelled (but not a road warrior), INTJ, sterile by NSV (highly recommended; painless! :-).

I'm mainly looking for a girl who's similar (not too similar!) for that whole LTR thang. Cross-grained genius chowhound, ideally. If you don't fit that epithet and you'd still like to make friends, I'd be pleased to hear from you.

Mail is Good, Winks are Silly. No, really: words are our friends, and size *is* important. Choose some, carefully.

BTW, I don't drink (it wasn't helping...) but if *you* do, that's just fine with me.

I am pragmatic, friendly, and curious
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Retraining to be a networking wiz, because an interlude working in a car-plant made my head hurt ("Srsly, I'm the only guy here with a book?")

This is going well, but oooh soooo slooooowly...

I'm also partway through an Open University B.Sc. Computing degree; this is mostly interesting and useful, but is taking most of my non-work time.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Fixing things -- typically using duct tape, coat hangers, perl and a hammer -- and figuring out how to replace the magic smoke.

Pushing old thrift-store and new tech books at cow-orkers; pushing bit.ly links at online friends ;-)

I'm fairly good at recycling...
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Big nose, big grin :^D and I sometimes wear glasses 8^D

Books a while back: James Hawes, Christopher Brookmyre, Carl Hiassen for amusement; John Irving, Thomas Pynchon, Michael Chabon for great English; Will Self for incredulity; Ayn Rand for perspective.

Books more recently: Tipping the Velvet, The Emperor of Scent, The Secret of Scent; all just brilliant. Freakonomics, The Tipping Point, Blink; geeky fun. Heaps of others, mainly bio / history / travelogue ('cause fiction gives me guilt-trips otherwise :)

I'm looking forward to getting my not-yet-read copy of HeLa back from the pal to whom I loaned it ("her" ? :-)

The Foglios' GirlGenius; "She's.. she's heterodyning!" just slays me.

Hat-tips to (of course) QuestionableContent, XKCD, Indexed and WastedTalent and, separately, LongNow and TED. Lovely stuff, keeps me sane.

Movies: MiB, Shrek, Wallace & Grommit, The Fifth Element, for amusement; Iris for Judy Dench and all-around brilliance. American Beauty, Withnail & I, Delicatessen, a few years back. Sex & Lucia; The Princess Bride -- incomparable! No horror or Almodovar, thank you very much.

TV: House, Boston Legal, any David Attenborough.

Music: I'm still carrying a torch for Janis Joplin :-) Old rock by choice (e.g. Ferry covering Dylan), but happy with anything except Rap/House.

Foods: Italian/American/Mexican/Chinese for preference, but catholic tastes; anything from sushi to (rarely) McDonalds.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Smart'n'funny people; cute girl to giggle with, passport'n'Amex; great books; and a fast Internet connection would be nice too...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Women. Coursework. Chocolate. Job interviews.

That five cats is three (or maybe four) cohabiting cats too many.
(Cattrition has now reduced us to 2.75)

That neither 'philosophical' nor 'sapiosexual' is quite the word for which I'm looking. Intellect as catnip, smarts are hawt.

That AdultFriendFinder seems not to use psychometrics...?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Typing coursework.

Prep'ing for job interviews.

Being a comment-monkey.

Thinking about women and eating chocolate.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Philadelphia's finest put me in bracelets and deported me :-(

They *did* ask if I'd had a nice holiday, tho! :-)

Also, I'm a Laundry Fairy. So shoot me, I enjoy it...
