My self-summary
I've spent the first 26 years of my life learning from mistakes that have made me the person that I am. Now I want to help other people learn from them too. I am all about gaming, laughing, learning and meeting new friends.
What I’m doing with my life
I teach at Sylvan Learning right now. It's quite fulfilling and I really like seeing kids' faces right when a tough concept clicks. I never thought I'd have this much fun around kids, but it's a blast!

Apart from that I've applied to a couple of MSW programs in the Fall. The dream for my graduate education is to go deep in both social work and education, and maybe follow up on my BA in philosophy. After a few years out of college, I realize school is something I want back in my life.

With these future degrees I'd like to reform education for students in their junior and senior years. I feel like we give students too little information on how to be an 18 year old. Between credit card and student loan debt, and the weight of being out alone for the first time, we don't give kids the chance they deserve. If we fix that, the country will become better for everyone.

In my free time, I enjoy nurturing my competitive nature through video games, board games, and card games. Specifically I love Dota and LoL, and I also enjoy shuffling up virtual Magic decks.

I'm also losing a ton of weight. Being healthy owns, and I feel awesome after losing 20 pounds in three months. I wish someone told me how good this felt a lot sooner!
I’m really good at
I've always enjoyed tutoring and teaching people, especially about things I'm interested in. I give good advice and therapy is an interesting prospect to me for the future.

On the other side of the coin, I love learning new things. (There's a theme to this profile). If you have passions you want to share, I'd love to talk to you about them!

I'm also good at singing and whistling, but only if the radio in the car is REALLY LOUD.
The first things people usually notice about me
My smile, the whistling, or the raucous laughter.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Tao of Pooh
The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can't Stand Positive Thinking
Looking for Alaska
Grapes of Wrath (this was the first book I was "forced" to read for school that stuck with me).
A Theory of Justice (John Rawls is my favorite philosopher).

Frozen (those songs are stuck in my head forever)
Hard Candy
The Big Lebowski
Anything Wes Anderson
The King of Kong
Man on Wire
Free to Play (Valve made a documentary, really good view on the new world of competitive gaming).

TV Shows:
House of Cards, True Detective, and Sherlock were my jams. I will also fight you if you make me miss Cosmos. Other than that the TV usually stays off, but I'll occasionally binge more series or anime on the weekends. Attack on Titan was pretty sweet.

I usually just jam with whatever's on the alternative station on the radio, but here are some bands I've enjoyed recently.
Anything Ben Gibbard, Ben Folds, or Ben Harper. (I'm a sucker for Bens apparently)
Andrew Bird
Bon Iver

I love trying new food and the spicier the better. Also I love cooking with friends; home made food is the best. That said, if I'm exhausted and it's approaching 2 am, nothing satisfies me more than a Beefy Crunch Loaded Griller.
The six things I could never do without
- Close friends to share my time and passions with
- A book to read
- My educational goals and aspirations
- My computer. It's cliche, but so much of my life is digital now.
- Time outside of the house. It's a little contradictory, but cabin fever is rough.
- New things to learn
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I like thinking about important questions and trying to answer them. The philosophy major in me cares a lot about defining happiness, defining a just society, and generally finding meaning. I also try to stay as focused on the grad school plan as possible, and I'm constantly thinking of how to improve my future.

I've also started spending a lot of time in self-reflection and trying to be more honest with myself. It's made my life so much better, and I'm very comfortable in my own skin.
On a typical Friday night I am
Meeting new people, hanging out with old friends, and playing games.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I forgot how to ride a bike. I think that makes me special but it doesn't FEEL special.
