My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hey there! My name's Louis! In 2013, fresh out of college, I made a conscious decision to move from Chicago to downtown Detroit for a Software Development position. I must say, Detroit isn't quite as scary as it's made out to be; I've actually grown quite fond of the place!

I love playing music; currently I only play with friends for random cover band get-togethers every once and a while. Occasionally a friend's solo act needs a backup guitarist/bassist spot that I will gladly fill! I also have my own music project that I write and record for whenever I have time, although this has been put on hold for a while as I focus on my job. So who the hell knows when that'll come back...

I enjoy playing video games! As you might have figured, seeing as I'm a programmer I also happen to be a major geek. I grew up playing lots of Nintendo games, particularly Zelda. I am a huge fan of Final Fantasy and RPG games in general. Lately I've been playing Dark Souls quite a bit... I also enjoy watching movies, anime, and various TV shows on Netflix and Hulu.

I don't care much for watching sports, but if you're a sports fan, I'm cool with that. Just don't expect me to care if the team you love loses =D. I do love playing tennis, though! I still suck at it, but I am trying to learn how to play properly. I took some beginner lessons a while back... haha

I really want to spend time traveling the world when I have enough money to, but it's okay if I don't any time soon. I want to become more proficient in other languages; I'm currently learning Japanese, and would like to learn German and Chinese as well.

Overall, I'm a pretty simple guy. While I do love going out sometimes, I generally find myself most comfortable at home with few to no people, just hanging out.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I graduated from DePaul University in Chicago with a major in Computer Science.
I moved to Detroit for a full time software development job, which is exciting.

I enjoy programming a lot! I particularly like video game programming and I hope one day to get back to doing that again.

I write and record my own music, although it's been hard keeping up working full time and all. At least currently I am playing with a cover band at work, which is a great way for me to keep up with playing music right now.

Lately I've been focusing on improving myself overall with the free time I get after work: Particularly learning how to cook & bake, (so far all I can do is bake banana bread) and running consistently to stay in shape (which HAS been successful so far! woo!) I also have been attending Kung Fu classes which is a much more fun and rewarding way to get in shape than lifting weights...*yawn*. I am also working on learning Japanese (slowly but surely).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I like to think I'm pretty good at guitar... Also, I'm constantly working on getting better at programming, of course!
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably that I am very shy around people I don't know... but once I'm opened up I'm great to be around... promise! =p

Unfortunately I do not read enough =/

But those that I have read that I can think of at the top of my head that I love are The Hobbit, Glass Castle, Life of Pi, Concrete Island, and The Secret Adversary.

When I do read I usually like to read world history texts, which sounds boring I know, but I find it fascinating. It only fuels my desire to travel even more :D

My favorite movies are usually ones starring certain actors I love:
Johnny Depp, Paul Giamatti, Gene Wilder, etc. I like a lot of different types of movies, but I tend to gravitate towards series films like those of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lord of the Rings/Hobbit, Hunger Games, and the like.
It should also go without saying that I also love Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki films!

My favorite shows: One Piece, Scrubs, 3rd Rock from the Sun, How I Met Your Mother, Agents of SHIELD, The Flash, Gotham, Arrow (yup all the freaking comic book shows... I just can't get enough of them), Various Nickelodeon 90's shows, Soul Eater, Trigun, Dragon Ball Z, Samurai Champloo, Gurren Lagann, Fairy Tail, etc

My favorite music: Minus the Bear, Sufjan Stevens, The Beatles, Into It. Over It., CAKE, Death Cab For Cutie, Nujabes, Built to Spill, Neutral Milk Hotel, Incubus, Modest Mouse, Maps and Atlases, Owen, The Dismemberment Plan, Spawn of Possession (I do like a lot of metal as well), The Black Dahlia Murder, blink 182, Michael Jackson, Between the Buried and Me, and Queen, just to name a bunch.

My favorite food: Italian, Mexican, some Indian, some Thai.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1) Friends/Family
2) My guitar
3) Video games
4) Music in general
5) Japanese Culture
6) Kung Fu
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What I want to do to progress in life. I used to think a lot about my future and whether or not I could succeed in my goals... but lately this has shifted to a focus on the now. For example, right now I am working on getting in shape, learning a new language, and paying off my loans. My current job allows me to do these things, which is great. I am not sure if I will remain at this job, not that I don't enjoy it, because I do, but I guess I'm still not crystal clear what I ultimately want my career to consist of. For now I figure the best course of action is just working on self-improvement while enjoying my life as I see fit. It's easy for me to lose focus if I worry too much about the future.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
at home, watching a movie or playing a game =) maybe with friends, maybe not.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Prior to moving to Detroit, I had become a rather avid player of Magic: The Gathering, haha. I'm not embarrassed by it, but it seems fitting (and rather amusing) to put it here.

Unfortunately don't know many people in Detroit who play it though... so as a result I've basically stopped as well haha.
