Yesterday I was an
actor, today I'm a broker, tomorrow...who
knows?
I learned long ago that no one knows what life has in store, and
best laid plans are in the end simply good intentions. It can be a
bumpy ride at times, but thus far there've been more ups than downs
and I guess that makes me lucky. I was a working actor for 4 years
following college until life threw a curveball and forced me to
join the ranks of the "gainfully employed." Over the next three
years I've been working in finance, and I've found that this job
compliments a side of my personality I never knew I had. I have no
illusions that this is where I'll be when I'm old and grey however.
I'm just excited to read the first line of the next chapter.
I can’t sit still. I'm happiest when I'm learning new things,
honing new skills, and exploring new worlds. Living 10 minutes
outside the city affords me the ability to never run out of new
things to snag my curiosity. I love to
explore the city. Just recently
I caught a taping of the
daily show, met an out-of-town friend
for lunch in the empire state building, saw 3 short pieces as part
of an indie film festival in the village, and ended the day with
more friends at Barcade where we drank and played til the wee
hours. Where else can you do that except in NYC?
Next up for me is learning to
cook, exploring New York’s
standup comedy scene and
taking a
creative writing course. I used
to write quite a bit in school and I’ve missed not having a
creative outlet which, for me at least, is very important.
One of my biggest passions is Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu. For those who are
unfamiliar, it's a grappling based martial art which relies on
leverage and body positioning instead of size and strength. There
is no punching, kicking or striking of any kind. Watching two
masters roll (that's what we call it) is more akin to watching a
well choreographed dance. It's almost poetic. You can find me there
several times a week, along with many others who I feel fortunate
to consider close friends.
Just trying to figure it all out, man. Isn't that really what each
of us is doing, if we're being honest? I've spent time on either
side of the aisle, but I'm in a good place right now and just
focused on living and enjoying my life. I've got a good family and
great friends who remind me to stop and smell the roses even if I
get pricked by the occasional thorn.
I really wish I knew the answer to this...
Books: Classics,
non-fiction,
sci-fi, philosophy, occult, really
anything done well.
Movies: I'm coming to realize that I can enjoy just about any genre
as long as something is worth watching.
Shawshank will always remain at least
near the top of the list, as will other less main stream vehicles
like Talk To Her. A recent favorite is
Quentin Tarantino's
Inglourious Basterds and next on the list is The Men Who Stare At
Goats. As for TV, it's
30 Rock,
It's Always Sunny,
House.
Music: Anything that gets my foot tapping or me
dancing. I have eclectic tastes,
but I'll always have a soft spot for 80's music, no matter how bad
it is. Don't look at me like that. You try hating the music you
grew up with. See? Not so easy is it?
Food: Yes, please.
Internet
Caffeine in some form (
Coffee, Soda, did I say Coffee?)
Outlets for self-expression
Sleep
Jiu Jitsu
Friend who make me laugh
EVERYTHING.
please someone shut my brain off.
More specifically though...people, I guess. What makes them tick.
What drives them to do what they do, or not do. How to improve
myself. Strategies for winning the lottery...I'll take suggestions
for that last one if you have any.
Spending time with friends.
Sometimes I cry at sad movies...........yeah.
Any of this appeals to you, OR, if you happen to have found that
jacket I left on the bus.
