My Self-Summary
I'm not a fan of self-summaries, because much like obituaries, they
always fail to accurately present the person.
What I’m doing with my life
Right now, I'm an English Professor. I teach college students how
to write/appreciate writing/think critically. I mostly do this so I
can fund my own writing life.
I’m really good at
I believe I'm a good writer -- though, based on the info I'm
providing here, one wouldn't know. I'm a good cook. I grew up with
a father who is an immensely talented engineer, and some of his
talents made their way into my DNA -- I'm good at "tinkering" with
stuff. I'm damn good at correcting a run-on sentence . . .
The first things people usually notice about me
Hmm . . . I'm not sure how to answer this question. I'll ask some
friends and see what they say.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Oh, wow. I am obsessed with Virginia Woolf (how cliche), and as a
writer/educator, I can't even begin to list "favorite books."
Actually, I'm not a "favorites" kind of girl. I don't have a
favorite color or favorite food. I have multiple favorite movies,
and the only music I dislike is contemporary country.
The six things I could never do without
Coffee, the news, pens, paper, hot showers, a comfortable bed.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Words. Characters. Narratives. Politics.
On a typical Friday night I am
At home with tea (pathetic, I know), reading or watching television
-- basically relaxing after a long week of grading papers and
answering questions.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I have a cat that I'm not especially fond of. It's not that I
dislike cats, or dislike her, I just dislike the relationship.
