My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
In a past life, I was a dolphin. Now I'm a freelance writer.

Step down or step up? I'm undecided.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Using the personal liberty afforded by Internet-based self-employment to cross major world cities off my "places I've lived" list. Right now, I'm in France for the second time in three years, but I'll be back in good ol' Guelph on the 17th of September.

I used to make grand long-term plans for my life, but in the past few years, I've been looking at the future in three- to six-month increments and it seems to be working out quite nicely.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Owning things that fit in suitcases.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
One of two things: my deep booming voice, or that I haven't said a word since I sat down at the table.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Books -- I've been working my way through the books they made me read in high school English class to see if they're better than I remember them. The Chrysalids was pretty kick-ass. Lord of the Flies is next.

Movies -- This list too long for me to type and too long for you to read. Trust me. But just to give you an idea, I like psychological thrillers, classic Hollywood, Hitchcock, and anything starring Jack Nicholson, Robert Mitchum, Leonardo DiCaprio or Jimmy Stewart.

Shows -- I don't really watch TV. Yes, I know "The Wire" is most incredible thing in the history of the medium, and based on the way my Facebook has been exploding over the past few months, it sounds like "Game of Thrones" and "Breaking Bad" are both more amazing than life itself. But until I find the time to actually sit down and watch them, I'm perfectly content to with old episodes of "Twin Peaks," "Cheers" and "The Twilight Zone." I kind of miss television that didn't require a commitment of more than 22 minutes.

***UPDATE: I just started season four of "The Wire." It's pretty good. Greatest show ever? No. Pretty good? Yes.

Music -- I tend to like music made by angry young non-conformists who exacted revenge on the world by becoming rich and successful beyond belief. Wonder why that is...

Food -- I loathe cheese. (Yeah, yeah, I know -- it's sacrilege.) Other than that, though, I'm pretty open to whatever.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Loose leaf notepaper, a pen, my laptop, a wireless Internet connection, a thesaurus and about eight cups of strong black coffee.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How monospaced serifed fonts could not have dominated my life to this degree at any other point in human history.

What a time to be alive.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
It's Friday? Whoa. Thought it was Tuesday...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I like Duran Duran.
