I am warm but not fuzzy, a bit cynical, and often goofy.
My Self-Summary
Hey there! So, what would you like to know?
I'm originally from Illinois, and I've always liked St Louis
because we've got the culture of a city, but not the traffic. It's
also close to my family, so I jumped on the chance to move here
when a job opened up and never looked back. You can probably guess
that my
family is
important to me, especially my nephew.
I also play my
guitar on occasion, I like to
cook (but cooking for one is
getting tedious), and I love
rock climbing, mostly at the
climbing gym downtown, but also outside every once in a great
while. I like to
travel when I can, whether across the
continent or the globe. I've recently started riding a
motorcycle, which is
like meditation for me. No matter how I'm feeling, I always find
myself grinning ear-to-ear as soon as I open the throttle. For the
record, I wear a helmet, and my bike is a laid back cruiser, not a
"crotch rocket." There's nothing meditative about weaving between
cars while trying to break the sound barrier.

What I’m doing with my life
I'm a go-with-the-flow kind of guy. I'm doing what I can to make
sure I have time and opportunity to do things I enjoy, and am
looking for someone to pal around with.

I’m really good at
Fixing stuff, especially computers and stuff that I broke in the
first place.
Quoting movies. Even ones I haven't seen.
Remembering minor details and completely forgetting big
pictures.
Making my nephew laugh (he's not yet 2, so it's still pretty
easy).
Making the rest of my family and friends laugh (tougher
crowd).
Being there for my friends.
The first things people usually notice about me
Well at the end of last year, I participated in this fundraiser for
the Prostate Cancer Foundation, for which I grew a very goofy
looking mustache.
For a while, that was definitely the first thing people would
notice about me... and now that I've shaved (and got rid of my long
hair), it seems the first thing people notice is how much better I
look with short hair and no mustache.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Recent reads I really enjoyed include Bad Monkeys, How to be
Good, How to Talk to a Widower, A Dirty Job, and Good Omens.
Not long ago I was on a
sudden fiction kick (really short
stories & essays). I also like
Chuck Palahniuk (and other
mess-with-your-mind authors), David Sedaris, Tom Clancy, The
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,
Post Secret, and whatever else I
might stumble across. After the recent reads, I'm going to have to
pay more attention to Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and Christopher
Moore. I laughed at loud while reading theirs so far.
Movies: I like a lot of them.
Bond &
Bourne are great for action,
Kevin Smith is always
good for a laugh, and 80's "classics" like Breakfast Club, Monty
Python, Caddyshack are always a welcome reminder of a simpler
time.
Music: Diverse, basically everything that isn't country or rap. To
name a few,
Nine Inch Nails,
The Urge,
Madahoochi,
Snow Patrol, Air...
Food: Like I said before, I like to mess around in a kitchen, and I
enjoy just about anything. Indian, Thai, "Chinese," American,
Italian,
steak, and
sometimes it's just Peanut Butter Jelly Time.
The six things I could never do without
This. That. Maybe the other thing every once in a while. Alright,
fine. 6 things I really really really would hate to go
without...
Good friends, the ones you can count on in a bind
Good laughs, usually with the good friends
Good foods, because there's more to life than McDonalds &
spaghetti
Good drinks, usually pairs well with the good food
Good times (just falls into place when you've got the first
4)
Transportation, because I can't stand the idea of never leaving
town. Thus the 12 in 12 (see the "thinking about")
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Getting things done. When I might get to visit with old friends
again (the ones in other states). In fact, I recently decided to
take 12 trips in 12 months, so I've been spending a lot of time on
that plan. Kicking it off with a roadtrip back to St Louis from
Phoenix around the holidays. I'm also visiting folks in Texas, New
York, Oregon, maybe taking a cruise, and hopefully a few climbing
trips. I'm open to suggestions.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out somewhere, doing something, and totally ignoring the
fact that it's "back to the grind" again in just a few days.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Once a month, I volunteer somewhere that involves protesters
yelling at me and calling me names. I volunteer so they'll waste
their breath yelling at me and not someone else who doesn't need
it.
You should message me if
...you want to. If you think I sound fun (or funny). If you want to
ask me about anything. If you want to try rock climbing, or if
you've tried climbing and need a belayer. If you look at my
pictures and think to yourself "Damn, I gotta message this guy."
These are all good reasons.
