What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
i feel lucky to have a pretty rad job that i would be doing even if they weren't paying me. though i love it, it also gives me enough freedom and flexibility that it doesn't entirely define the answer to "what i'm doing with my life".

so what AM i doing with my life then? lately it has involved a lot of traveling, exploring this crazy world we live in, getting stuck for a while in its most beautiful, exciting, or cool parts, and then remembering how fun and beautiful the bay area is and coming back here for a while.

peripherally, i'm also trying to become a better cook, push myself creatively with my personal projects, and attain the body of an underwear model (in decreasing order of success).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
keeping a broad perspective on life.
stopping to smell the roses.
maintaining long friendships.
taking it all in stride.
The first things people usually notice about me

my piercing blue eyes... like two serene mountain pools, their motionless beauty touched only by the deep azure blue reflected from the heavens above.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

god, over the years this particular box has gotten a little long and out of hand, so for those of you who want the tl;dr version:

carl sagan, tina fey, neutral milk hotel, spicy food, say anything.

for those who like long lists or are just kind of bored, BEHOLD! the long version:

music (representative but not comprehensive): neutral milk hotel, the rolling stones, lcd soundsystem, talking heads, animal collective, black sabbath, joanna newsom, and willie nelson. i also really like pretty icelandic stuff. and noisy japanese stuff. and almost everything that was on the radio when i was in high school.

books: i like magical realism eg Midnight's Children (Salman Rushdie), classic sci-fi (Phillip K. Dick, William Gibson), philosophical/historical fiction (Hesse, Thoreau, Dostoyevsky). Murakami who kind of does his own thing. i also really love history books, my favorite being Ideas by Peter Watson.

movies: i like blade runner and other gritty, classic sci-fi movies.i like awesome 90's coming of age movies like pump up the volume, reality bites, and most of all say anything. and historical epics like lawrence of arabia and doctor zhivago. i love the coen brothers, but so does everyone. i love early wes anderson but i think he kind of got stuck doing the same thing lately. michel gondry. wong kar wai. i also like star wars, like, a LOT.

video games: i like, creative, artsy, thought-provoking video games. because of our entrenched societal gender roles you probably don't, and probably doubt that they exist. but they do! and they are a very powerful form of expression in my opinion.

food: i like to cook thai food, home made spaghetti sauce, and vegan chili. i tend to be drawn to strong flavors like chili, garlic, citrus, salt, and glutamate, but i am really blown away when i discover a mild tasting food that still begs to be noticed, like the tomato soup i once had a chez panisse. i love the perfect pairings of textures and flavors, like crispy sesame crackers with strong blue cheese and fresh blackberries. i love all manner of alcoholic drinks, but especially peaty scotch, oaky wine, and bitter beer.

i have a secret way of making bacon that will change your life.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
the freedom to travel the world
an open mind
friends and family
dance parties
the mountains
the internet
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
how a phenomenon as miraculous as consciousness could arise from the machinery of a cold and lifeless universe.

or, to borrow someone else's words, "how strange it is to be anything at all".
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
lately i have been pretty relentless in my quest to DO FUN SHIT and not let friday or any other night go to waste. midnight bike ride? impromptu dance party? art opening? fucking road trip?!?! my jaded friends are getting kind of tired of my enthusiasm though, so i need new partners in crime.

i'm not always that high maintenance though, sometimes i'm also cool with a good old fashioned bikeride-bar-crawl or netflix binge-a-thon.

... you want to cook dinner with me. you want to take a midnight bike ride. you want to go dancing on a weeknight. you want to have a two person dance party in your living room. you want to go to the ballet orrrrrrr you just want to make out.

... if you have something insightful or hilarious to say about all the jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, earth-shattering, hyphen-necessitating realities that we are confronted with every day, yet must push aside for more mundane matters.
