My self-summary
i am impulsive, open minded, and in awe of everything

i am also not really in san francisco right now. i've been traveling for a little over three years now. i leave san francisco as my location usually since i come back to the bay area at least once a year and i still consider it my "home base" but i am rarely ever there, or really anywhere else in particular, except for "here", where i happen to be at the moment.
What I’m doing with my life
standing in awe of the breadth of human experience, proactively trying to take in as much of it as i can.

to make money, i help craft deep and moving stories set in fantastical, virtual worlds for the most wonderful little company in the world. i can do this from pretty much anywhere, so i try to do it from pretty much everywhere.

for this reason my location isn't always up to date. i consider san francisco to be kind of my "home base", even if i don't plan to be there much in the near future.
I’m really good at
keeping a broad perspective on life. stopping to smell the roses. maintaining long friendships. taking it all in stride.
The first things people usually notice about me
my six pack.

of beer. that i'm carrying in my hand, next to my nice soft, sexy belly. want a beer?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
god, over the years this particular box has gotten a little long and out of hand, so for those of you who want the short version:

carl sagan, tina fey, neutral milk hotel, spicy food, say anything.

for those who like long lists or are just kind of bored, the long version:

there is too much lovely music in the world to list it in a little box. a non-comprehensive though fairly representative cross section would be neutral milk hotel, the rolling stones, aphex twin, animal collective, tori amos, black sabbath, joanna newsom, and willie nelson. i also really like pretty icelandic stuff. and noisy japanese stuff. and almost everything that was on the radio when i was in high school.

as for books, i like magical realism ie Midnight's Children (Salman Rushei), classic sci-fi (Phillip K. Dick, William Gibson, etc). Murakami who kind of does his own thing. i also really love history books, my favorite being Ideas by Peter Watson, and historical fiction, ie Siddhartha (Hermen Hesse).

movies: i like blade runner and other gritty, classic sci-fi movies.i like awesome 90's coming of age movies like pump up the volume, reality bites, and most of all say anything. and historical epics like lawrence of arabia and doctor zhivago. i suppose it is only fair to admit that i also like cheesy romance movies, like great expectations (new one), in the mood for love, bridget jones's diary, etc. i also like star wars, like, a LOT.

also pootie tang.

video games: i also like, creative, artsy, thought-provoking video games. because of our entrenched societal gender roles you probably don't, and probably doubt that they exist, but they do, and they are a very powerful form of expression in my opinion.

food: i like to cook thai food, home made spaghetti sauce, and vegan chili. i tend to be drawn to strong flavors like chili, garlic, citrus, salt, and glutamate, but i am really blown away when i discover a mild tasting food that still begs to be noticed, like the tomato soup i once had a chez panisse. i love the perfect pairings of texture and a confluence of flavors, like sesame crackers with strong blue cheese and fresh blackberries. i love all manor of alcoholic drinks, but especially peaty scotch, oaky wine, and bitter beer.

i have a secret way of making bacon that will change your life.
The six things I could never do without
the freedom to travel the world, an open mind, friends and family, dance parties, the mountains, the internet
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how a phenomenon as miraculous as consciousness could arise from the machinery of a cold and lifeless universe.

or, to borrow someone else's words, "how strange it is to be anything at all".
On a typical Friday night I am
hopefully somewhere i've never been before, doing something i've never done before

i know this answer may sound a bit cliché, but in my case it really is true. i would guess it applies to at least half of my Friday nights in the past couple years.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
i was kicked out of college. and i've been to jail.
