I am silly, affectionate, and clever.

My Self-Summary

I like to read and my jobs are enablers. I try to surround myself with positive people and not watch too much tv because otherwise I get cranky. I like to get places under my own steam, either by foot or bike.

What I’m doing with my life

At the moment I've got two part-time jobs (at a library and at a bookstore) and have felt lucky to have anything for the past year, given the economy. Now that things are picking up again, I'm hoping to make that into one full-time job with grown up stuff like benefits. It's nice to dream.

I’m really good at

playing games, making puns and corny dad jokes, listening, recommending books, cooking and cuddling. I'm not so good at singing, writing and growing tomatoes, but I do them anyway.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Movies: Anything that makes me think (Children of Men), where I learn something (Who Killed the Electric Car), that brings me nostalgia (Princess Bride, Dead Poet's Society), that makes me laugh (Finding Nemo, Muppets from Space).

Music: I like most kinds. I will turn off the radio for heavy metal, but usually it's on. My current favorites are Great Big Sea and Carbon Leaf, but they are far from the only things on my ipod, which is usually on shuffle.

Food: Yes please. I'm mostly vegetarian, and try to be a locavore. Other than that, bring it - especially if it's covered in chocolate.

Books: Really? Ok... but you asked for it: Mostly fiction (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Giver, Ender's Game, Brothers Karamazov, Don Quijote, The Book Thief, anything by Jhumpa Lahiri, Khaled Hosseini, Barbara Kingsolver, John Irving...) I have my nonfiction phases (Colored People, Exile's Return, Beverly Daniel Tatum, Anne Lamott, Barbara Ehrenreich, Bill Bryson, travel guides and memoirs...) and am currently in a teen fiction phase (more Lois Lowry, Judy Blume, Holes, Coraline, Hunger Games, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian... I blame the library.)

The six things I could never do without

Music, laughter, family, the ability to cook for myself, books, and cards. Not necessarily in that order.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

... my mind is all over the place. I'm not sure I could give the mess one label!

On a typical Friday night I am

Decompressing with a Shabbat service/dinner or a quiet night in; occasionally out and about.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I keep a toothbrush at work because I am often running late in the mornings.

You should message me if

you will laugh at my jokes (though I know it's unreasonable to want someone to laugh at them harder than I do) :) Also if you're Jewish. I didn't use to think that mattered but now I realize it does, very much.... almost as much as laughing at my really bad jokes ;)
