My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an American living in Europe. One of my goals is to have a house in Europe and a house in the States. I'm addicted to books; I'm a photographer (hence my screenname), I love traveling, and I love movies, especially silent film. ESPECIALLY silent film! Whenever I can, I go to a festival in Italy, where I can meet other like-minded fans. We all fall asleep during the movies - how can you not, when you're sitting in a dark room all day? It's a film festival with elements of the biggest slumber party you've ever attended.

I don't want to live to work OR work to live. I want to work as if I didn't need the money. Even better, I want to work and KNOW that I don't need the money!

What else? I love Monty Python. I love horror fiction/movies. I love the offbeat. I believe in the supernatural, and I'm always reading about it. No, I do not wear a tin-foil hat. I believe in questioning damned near everything, and breaking free of preconceived notions of life. Let's face it; life is too short to live boxed in by other people's ideas of how it should be lived.

I want to visit the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the ruins of Ancient Greece, and anything else that looks interesting. There's so much on this earth that I haven't seen for myself!

I am tall, well-read, and an animal lover.

I wonder why so many men out there just love "The Shawshank Redemption". It seems that this movie is on the list of beloved movies in most of the profiles I've read.

One very important thing - if I've messaged you, or sent you a wink, and you didn't respond, and then saw that I had visited your profile again, please don't worry. It's only that I forgot I had messaged/winked at you, saw your thumbnail profile, visited the full profile, and only then, realized that I had already contacted you. No need for concern. If I get no response, I don't contact you again.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Making a lot of changes, right now. Recent events have really opened my eyes to things I've been missing for a long time, and I'm working on living a REAL life! Having the right career; increasing my circle of friends; traveling more often; these things are all very important to me. I now do yoga on a regular basis, as well, and the benefits are startling! I've been reading quite a bit about manifestation and concentrating on what you want in your life, rather than what you don't want. Changing your thoughts is a real challenge, but worth it. I can see results in some areas, and I look forward to all the great things coming my way. I'm getting back into creative things - writing, more photography, etc.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Reading, photography, Internet research. Baking, especially sweet goods. Watching DAMNED good movies. Being weird. Scaring the hell out of myself, late at night, with horror books and movies. Learning new things.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I don't know. I've never asked. I can tell you what people often say about me, which is, "You're WEIRD!" This is said as if it's an insult. I take it as a compliment. Why be normal? I like being "weird"; it's part of who I am.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books:

True ghost stories, Thoreau, Bertrand Russell, P.G. Wodehouse, John Kennedy Toole, Beryl Markham, Susanna Clarke, Shirley Jackson, Antonia Fraser's non-fiction works, Donna Tartt, e.e. cummings, Edgar Allan Poe, Bill Bryson, books about little-known historical events/culture.

Movies:

Silent. I love, I ADORE, silent movies. There's a magic to silent film that sound film has never been able to capture, not even the best of them. I love watching actors and actresses whose names have long been forgotten by most of the world. As long as their films exist, they will never die, and never age.
I also like horror films, including those dreadfully, but endearingly, cheesy Hammer films of the '50s and '60s.
Hitchcock. David Lean. Peter Weir. The late, lamented, Anthony Minghella. James Ivory.

Music:

The music of the '60s, for the most part. I'm a huge Beatles fan - they're my favorite group - and I love Simon and Garfunkel, as well as quite a few songs by the Rolling Stones. I love Queen and Freddie Mercury, The Police and Sting, and I HATE rap and hip-hop. I'm not a country fan, either, though I do like the odd song, here and there. I'm now discovering Mojo Nixon and Jello Biafra (I knew of them before, but hadn't listened to most of their work, and had no idea they'd made an album together!). Not to mention the Dead Milkmen. And Cherry Poppin' Daddies.

Food:

Chinese, Thai, Tex-Mex, Italian, French. I don't like seafood and I don't eat organ meats. I don't eat fast food, and I don't drink soft drinks.

I recently became hooked on the HBO series "True Blood" - what a sparkling, well-written, perfectly-cast show that is! Gross and over-the-top; a lot like me, come to think of it. I love '70s TV, including "Kung Fu". Amazing show. I'm addicted to "Father Ted" - why did Dermot Morgan have to go so soon?
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
True friends
Pristine nature
Kindness
Compassion
Art
Togetherness

And of course, food and water. And chocolate.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Just about everything! I think about what I want to do with my life, where I want to travel, and a hell of a lot more. I think about how to make my life better, and how to be a better person.

On a less lofty note, I wonder why guys can read through my profile and message me when they have children, and I state as clearly as I know how that I'm not interested in romantic involvement with men who have children. I don't think about this much of the time, fortunately, but I do think about it. I mean, really - it's right there that I am not going to answer messages from men who have children, or who want children, yet occasionally, some rock-headed moron messages me anyway.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
There is no typical Friday night for me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

It's been lovely, but I have to scream now.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
YOU DON'T HAVE CHILDREN.

YOU DON'T WANT CHILDREN.

IF YOU HAVE A CHILD OR CHILDREN, DON'T BOTHER MESSAGING ME.

Sorry, but I just got yet another message from yet another man who has a child/children, and I wish this site had a way to prevent this from happening. We all have deal-breakers, and this is one of mine. This is NOT a challenge for those who have or want kids! I've just blocked another user who has kids, but messaged me anyway. You're just wasting your time.

You don't hunt and don't like guns. You aren't in a relationship/looking for casual sex.

You're straight. I'm not looking for someone who's bisexual, or a straight man who is married/otherwise involved and looking for a third person. I'm decluttering my life, not adding to the clutter.

You don't smoke.

You DO like classic movies, classic rock, chocolate, nature, and reading. Okay, you don't have to meet ALL those criteria. But it doesn't hurt. :)

You are able to write a message without writing it like this: "hi there i like ur profile maybe we can chat would u like 2 meet." I can't believe it, but I JUST got a message from a guy who uses that sort of format - "u" instead of "you". So, there's another one - don't message me if you haven't read this section.

And especially - don't message me if you're a scammer (hey baby i want u not just for sex but also maybe mariage and i want u ur so cuty).
