Concisely: Female. 27.
Music teacher. Band geek for life.
Looking for new people to get to know, either as friends or
otherwise.
I graduated from BGSU in 2004 with a bachelors in
music education. Since
then, I've been teaching general music and assisting with various
bands. This August, I'll be starting my third year in a K-8 general
music position. I love
teaching.
I've also really gotten into being active in the last five years. I
make it my goal to
work out 5-6 days a week. I worked at a
women's gym for about two years; I joined a new gym last fall and
love working out there. I ran my first 5K in October 2007 and just
finished running my eighth. I also like bike riding and various
other forms of physical activity. My friends consistently remind me
that I'm now spending time doing what you couldn't have paid us
enough money to do back in college. This disturbs them and delights
me.
Uh,
music music
music. My major instrument is
flute. (Yeah, don't hold it against me.)
Sadly, my flute-playing has started to go by the wayside since I
haven't found a good outlet to use it, though I did get invited to
play in a musical and reconnected with an old choir teacher who has
given me several opportunties. I also like to sing, and I'm trying
to become a better piano player through my own methods. I'm good at
talking and being
funny (so I'm told).
What else? Oh, sleeping. I am a talented sleeper. Naps are like
gold in my book. I love learning new things and am a
question-asker, so if you know a lot about something interesting,
I'll probably be very curious. I'm a fast reader, a fast typer, and
a fast talker -- my students are occasionally baffled by how
quickly I speak.
Also, now that I look at the pictures I've uploaded here, I guess I
should add "taking and proudly displaying ridiculous photos of
myself" to this box. I'm proud of my silliness.
Probably that I talk a lot. Otherwise, like I said above, my
friends say I'm very funny, which makes me happy. Funny people are
the best. I've been told I'm smart. Smart people rule. I also like
to be constantly amused. Make me think and laugh and you're my
hero.
I hate being asked this because I don't think I've found my
favorite of a lot of these categories. I love experiencing new
things and I find the old standbys comforting. Anyway, here's a
random sampling:
a) It is really rough for me to narrow down my favorite books. I'm
totally going to forget and/or omit a lot, and I'm constantly
discovering new ones. I just finished reading Watchmen and have
joined several book clubs, and I like getting recommendations from
my friends on GoodReads or checking out anything that looks
interesting when I walk past it in the library. I LOVE to read.
Love it love it love it.
b) Ocean's 11, American Beauty, Truman Show, The Godfather Trilogy.
Favorite movies are like favorite books -- I'm always finding new
ones. I like stuff that's funny with a good plot. I could fall in
love with a movie just for its soundtrack, and
musicals (though often campy or
cheesy) are great fun.
MST3K rocks my socks.
Eddie Izzard,
Robin Williams, and
Lewis Black
are some of my favorite comedians. My busy schedule doesn't really
allow for consistent TV watching, but I like Mad Men, House, The
Daily Show, am highly amused by the kitsch that is Glee, and have
just gotten into watching Lost. (Yes. At the beginning of last
season. Late to the party, anyone?) I got a DVR and am learning how
to use and abuse it.
c) You name it, I'll at least give it a listen. I'm always looking
for a new artist to listen to. The old standbys are
alternative/classic rock: Incubus, Green Day, Guster, The Eagles,
Aerosmith, Tom Petty, and Jack Johnson -- but also Tori Amos,
Nickel Creek, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, Nat King Cole, Julie
London, various musicals and classical artists/composers like Eric
Whitacre, and anything else that I hear and like, or that puts me
in a good mood. I love adding new stuff to my iPod, and there's a a
whole bunch of random songs on there that I feel I can't live
without.
d) I love food. There are very few foods I don't like and I'm quite
willing to try new things, but my everyday tastes run fairly
simple. In my fridge, you'll find turkey/chicken, broccoli,
garbanzo beans, hummus, mushrooms, yogurt, avocados, apples, and
the like. Tasty stuff that's easy to pack for lunch. Indian food is
great too, though I've really only tried a few places in
Cincinnati. Oh, and sandwiches. Mmmm. Give me a sandwich covered in
veggies and I'm set.
Friends and family; music; laughter; my Mac and my iPod;
chapstick; coffee;
something to do. (Yeah, I'm indecisive. I couldn't narrow it down
to exactly six. There are definitely more.)
Where I will end up both geographically and professionally, where
and when I'll go to grad school, what I'll learn and who I will
meet along the way...so, my future, basically.
doing one of three things: 1. Something band related, like a
football game or a concert, 2. sitting at home, enjoying the fact
that I can relax/do nothing for an extended period of time, or 3.
doing something fun.
Um.....yes.
These profiles aren't anything more than a glimpse into what a
person is really like. Message me if you have a book, movie, or
music to recommend to me, if we have things in common or if you
want to teach me some of the amazing and awesome things you know,
or if you think I'd be a cool person to get to know.
