My self-summary
I'm a pretty thoughtful guy who reads a lot and loves to talk about ideas. I love Continental Philosophy (especially Nietzsche, Bataille, Derrida) and guys like Don DeLillo and David Foster Wallace. In college I spent most of my time in the religious studies department and the "critical theory & social justice" department, both of which are where I was introduced to basically everything I think is interesting now. Postmodern, postcolonial, etc. theory.

I call myself a feminist and I'm always trying to better myself in that way.

I also really love music, and I'll go to almost any concert. I like 'the outdoors' and good movies and good television and hanging out with my friends and talking about the role of the impossible in shaping a new future. Regular stuff. I sleep in.
What I’m doing with my life
So I graduated from college in LA in the spring, and now I'm taking a class in Berkeley over the summer to prepare for grad school in (probably) philosophy. But the real answer is that I don't know.
I’m really good at
Reading and understanding theory. I'm getting better at writing about it. I want to be good at: playing the drums, writing stories, cooking, everything.
The first things people usually notice about me
My beard. Other than that, I guess I don't know?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
So in terms of books, like I said, Nietzsche and Derrida are (right now) my favorite philosophers. I love listening to and watching Zizek. Judith Butler is definitely my jam. Lots more. Ask me.

Infinite Jest is my favorite novel. I know I'm sounding kind of typical right now. But I'm also really into Don DeLillo right now, and outside of that I haven't read a lot of fiction lately. But I'm going to start, now that I have some free time.

Television? I love Louie, and True Detective was mostly amazing. I got really into Orange is the New Black (when is that coming back?) and Game of Thrones (pure entertainment), and In Treatment. Louis CK is easily my favorite comic, and I'll watch whatever special comes out, but I also look out for a ton more, like Tig Notaro, Todd Glass, Kumail Nanjiani, etc. etc. If we're talking past TV shows, the list could be way too long, but some of my favorites were the Sopranos, Twin Peaks, The Office, 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Scrubs, Friends, every Star Trek (especially TNG and DS9, it's how I was raised), The Wire, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, and I have to stop but there are more.

Movies are also too hard to narrow down. I love Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master, There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights, etc.), Wes Anderson, Tarantino, the Coen Brothers, Abbas Kiarostami, way more. Harold and Maude, Fight Club, The Great Beauty, Apocalypse Now. Again, ask me about more.

Music. I'm going to paste my top artists from last.fm because I'm lazy and I listen to way too much music: Boards of Canada, Animal Collective, Ali Farka Touré, Pavement, Amon Tobin, Real Estate, Deerhunter, Titus Andronicus, Radiohead, Built to Spill, The Beatles, Wilco, Maria João Pires, Beck, Destroyer, Bonobo, Ali Farka Touré & Toumani Diabaté, Youth Lagoon, Philip Glass, Evgeny Kissin, Aphex Twin, Ratatat, Matthew Dear, Kurt Vile, Bob Dylan, Javelin, Sigur Rós, Cat Stevens, Monks, Grizzly Bear, Caribou, Tom Waits, Silver Jews, John Maus, Bibio, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Beach Boys, TV on the Radio, Amadou & Mariam, Vampire Weekend, Dr. Dog, Bear McCreary, Andre Nickatina, Arcade Fire, Mazzy Star, Ducktails, Born Ruffians, John Fahey, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis.

Food! Lots of things. Vietnamese, Sushi, Mexican, Thai, seafood, steak, pasta... Los Angeles has been really good to me food-wise.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
My own life, where I'm headed, my friends, how we construct meaning, how we relate to each other, how hard it is for our generation to be sincere.
