I am funny, creative, and myself.

My Self-Summary

* I am an easygoing person, and a bit shy until you get to know me.
* My interests are broad, and I love to try new things-currently into Fall gardening, Aikido, and thinking about building my own tumbling composter
* I'm a creative person and sometimes feel like I don't fit in with the work-yourself-silly DC scene.
* I'm also scatter-brained due to too many concurrent projects
* Exercise is important.
* I am a fast learner when the subject matter is fun and interesting
* Bullet points help me organize my thoughts
* I love making things and am pretty good with my hands. Occasionally I revisit my design portfolio and think "I need to get back into that."

What I’m doing with my life

I am still figuring that out, like many people our age. Have done the 9 to 5 thing and found that (surprise) it's no fun! It's really important to me to feel invested in what I do, otherwise I won't do it very well, or take much pride in it. My goal is to work for myself in some capacity, and towards that I co-founded a community forestry business based in Panama....maybe one day it will pay my salary? In the meantime, I manage marketing for a retail store in DC.

*Perfect job: founder/member of a non-profit artisans cooperative

I’m really good at

*Keeping at least 10 Post-it notes on my desk at any given time.
*Listening and building trust with people quickly. Seeing issues from different angles and deferring judgment until I have a good understanding of them.
*With the onset of cool weather, I've been rekindling my love of cooking.
*Being a cheating husband for Halloween

The first things people usually notice about me

Ears.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books:
* I'm Just Here for the Food
* Guns, Germs, and Steel
* Musashi
* The Conquest of Happiness
* Finite and Infinite Games
* Random Walk Down Wall Street
* To Have or to Be
* Books about design
* David Sedaris (to round it out)

Movies:
I don't watch too many new ones, so I'd say the classics that most guys like: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Top Gun. Japanese Samurai movies.

Music:
Pandora stations: Blues, classic rock, Chopin...depends on what I'm doing or how I'm feeling. Currently into the Avett Brothers, great folk rock music.

Food:
I don't have a favorite cuisine, but sushi would rank pretty highly, though, along with Italian. Right now I am on a granola kick after figuring out that it's just oats and honey, and Whole Foods charges $5/lb. for it. I like to cook, and am pretty interested in the science behind it.

The six things I could never do without

Water
A creative endeavor (or many)
Optimism
Exercise
Pen and paper for working out ideas
Family

I spend a lot of time thinking about

* The overwhelming number of things I will try one day, and places I want to visit.
* How it will be to work for myself
* What's important

On a typical Friday night I am

It depends on the work week. Sometimes a happy hour with co-workers, then to Aikido practice. Sometimes I just want to go home and cook dinner and relax, others I like going out with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I browse the coupons that come in Wednesday's Washington Post. And I roast my own coffee. No wait, I'm actually proud of those.
