My self-summary
I just moved to Portland. I'm getting set up with work and a residence right now and staying with my dad in the mean time. I'm originally from Salt Lake City. I got a BA in English and then worked in market research for about ten years, and I got really sick of working all the time and not having any time to write, which is what I actually want to do, so I quit my job and moved here, and I have a more casual job with less responsibility now, and I write stories in my spare time. It was a really big change, and I'm adjusting to the new place and lifestyle, but I'm happy to be here doing what I'm doing.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a nerd about movies and books. I really like stories. I'm working at a casual job and reading and writing as much as possible.
I’m really good at
I really don't know. I used to think I was good at things, but then I heard about this whole relativity thing that was invented by some German or Austrian guy. I can't remember his name, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Schwarzenegger or Hitler. Alright, that joke was really stupid. Everybody knows I'm talking about Albert Camus. Granted, he was a continentalist, but the whole relativity thing still seems to hold water. In conclusion, I'm not objectively good at anything, and that realization has taken a toll on my self-esteem. But, I'm cheery. I'm objectively good at being cheery, especially during the holiday season. I never give christmas gifts, and I always receive a lot, so I always come out relatively on top, which puts me in a great mood.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I'm quiet, especially in a large group. I don't like being the center of attention.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like dry realism in movies, TV shows, and books. I like other types of stories too. Even though I'm not really into 'Breaking Bad', I understand why people like it. It's good. It's well done. It really is. I just like stuff that's dryer and more realistic. I guess it's sort of a thriller crime drama with a really central family dynamic. It's a cool take on thrillers because he got into such a dangerous situation because he thought he was already going to die, and then when he found out the cancer wasn't a threat, he kept going. That's a pretty cool idea. It's a lot like the first 'God Father' movie in that way, protecting his family, and then it became more about personal success. Anyway, I like a lot of different books, shows, and movies. I don't listen to music a ton, but I like a lot of the bands that get high ratings on Pitchfork. Ha! I like going to shows a lot, but I'm not the type of person who actively searches for new good music. Most of my friends are like that, and I'm the one searching for new shows, movies, and books. It's relatively symbiotic.
The six things I could never do without
Not sure. I've done without the internet. I've done without much money. I've kind of done without movies and TV shows a bit, and I had a really hard time with it. I don't know that I can name six things. I can name six friends I couldn't do without.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how people act and what they want, how I act and what I want. I don't know.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually hanging out with friends. Occasionally, I'll stay home, but I usually go to bars or parties with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I reread books a lot. There are several books that I've read several times. I'm currently rereading 'Rabbit is Rich' and 'The Sun Also Rises'. I'd like to find a good knew book. The last new book I really liked was 'A Visit From The Good Squad' and 'The Privileges'.

You should message me if
If you like watching more than one movie on a Saturday. If you've seen a movie in a theater in the afternoon and liked it so much that you watched it again later that night. Or, if you like Hemingway or Faulkner or Updike or Eugenides or Munroe. I think Alice Munroe is my favorite writer. If you like her a lot, you should definitely message me.
