I am intellectual, sexual, and still can cook..

My Self-Summary

I am curly-headed, a little bit pretentious and generally a delightful companion. I like people who are good cooks and/or laugh at my jokes. I enjoy lazily riding my yellow Schwinn, arguing for the sake of conversation and discussing hypothetical situations. I have several hipster affectations but no plaid in my closet. I would like to live in Berlin or on a farm. I don't get to be outside enough. Turns out I'm more academic and less political than I thought I was in college. I miss playing high school sports. I wish I had a large, very furry dog, or at least a rabbit.

What I’m doing with my life

I work for an environmental nonprofit, but it seems like mostly I'm reading The New Yorker on the bus (love that 90-92), going to the gym, trying to make decisions at the farmer's market and drinking whiskey-sodas.

I’m really good at

Irony, attempting to be funny, dropping but then catching things, meta-analysis, beirut (especially for a girl), proofreading, trivial pursuit, and making ice cream.

The first things people usually notice about me

Based on comments I've gotten shortly after meeting new people I seem to exude "interesting" and "sassy."

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

To read: cat's cradle, the great gatsby, the amber spyglass, john fowles, df wallace, borges, ayn rand (feel free to ask me why), lots of nonfiction, bitch magazine, the sunday times, hyperlocal blogs.

To listen: voxtrot, the national, deer tick, essex green, call and response, the eames era, los campesinos, ted leo, the mountain goats, the clash, the magnetic fields, clap your hands say yeah, modest mouse, the indigo girls, old crow medicine show, girl talk, k'naan, she and him, math and physics club, aberfeldy, bishop allen, the decemberists, selected titles from the 80's and 90's, this american life, the moth.

To watch: the sting, annie hall, the seventh seal, clue, you got served, a day at the races, the royal tenenbaums, the philadelphia story, the matrix, the thin man, a day at the races, the squid and the whale, party down, how i met your mother, ad, twin peaks.

To eat: all fruits and vegetables except red delicious apples, homemade cookies, manchego cheese, breakfast cereal, anything indian. and though i usually eat vegetarian, i make exceptions for whitefish, smoked salmon, virginia bbq, chicken liver pate and good sausage.

The six things I could never do without

Running, sarcasm, polo shirts, public radio, dairy products and substitutes thereof, people who make me laugh.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The restaurants I will one day open; my next meal; how to improve my life and/or the lives of others.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I cry every time I watch Cool Runnings.
