Funny. Gives good conversation. Active, but not obsessive about it. Never wants to stop learning or having new experiences. Can handle when things go wrong. If I had to choose between the people I know and the work I do, I'd take the people. Need to have some part of my life dedicated to what I'm putting into the world (vs. what I'm trying to take out of it) in order to be happy. Quirky.

Lately, a lot of do-gooder stuff. I spent most of last year living in Tanzania and working for an NGO.

finding great used books and records, making Tres Leches, having unusual experiences (see "Tanzania" above, and "jail" below), Trivial Pursuit, finding out what I have in common with someone, making people laugh, singing in the car, keeping old friends, dancing (if it's based in soul), road trips, taking walks at Ft. Funston or Bernal Hill, making friends with your dog.

My chiseled features and bad-boy attitude

I read A TON. Lately I've been reading a lot of short fiction, and consequently discovering a lot of great authors I never knew existed--Mavis Gallant, William Maxwell, Barry Hannah, Peter Taylor, and more.

Music: funk, soul, R&B, and disco. Donny Hathaway, Chic, The Mary Jane Girls. Had a monthly DJ gig in the Mission for years until I left the country last year. Years ago, was a house music-listening club kid. Have a special soft spots for mid-60s pop ("Bend Me, Shape Me," "Carrie Anne," "Windy"), and for 80s freestyle ("Point of No Return," "I Can't Wait," "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On"). Bill Frisell is the coolest musician alive in America right now.

Food: I like breakfast for dinner. The St. Francis Creamery is probably my favorite restaurant in SF.

I like baseball. Wanted to play 3rd base for the White Sox when I was a kid. Giants games are great, but seeing Stanford play at The Sunken Diamond is even better.
