I am adroit, fervent, and droll.
My Self-Summary
Let's start with some labels- feminist, scientist, vegetarian,
liberal.
I am driven by an insatiable lust for
knowledge. I want to know how
everything works, why it works and the motivations for its
creation. I'm interested in the idea of
power- who has it, how it is maintained
and how to subvert it.
I enjoy exploring the world around me- this can range from walking
randomly through Boston to taking a road trip around New
Zealand.
I am very open and sarcastic, with a rather dark sense of humor.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm currently working on my Ph.D. in Neuroscience. This means that
I sit in a dark, little room all day long taking pretty pictures
and making movies from them. Sometimes, I even analyze my data.
I’m really good at
Solving partially answered crossword puzzles, discovering amazing
restaurants and bakeries, navigating mass transportation, and
learning new languages.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm fat. I realize that this is a deal breaker for many, so
I'd like to be clear on this. I am healthy, active, and completely
happy with the way that I look. That being said, most people dig my
luscious blonde locks and my fabulous ass.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books/Authors- Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Milan Kundera, Philip Roth,
Daniel Clowes, Ayn Rand, M.F.K. Fisher, Kurt Vonnegut, Mary
Gaitskill, Naomi Wolf, etc. I also really enjoy novels about
dystopic societies a la 1984, Brave New World, Handmaid's
Tale.
Recently Enjoyed: The Omnivore’s Dilemma, The United States of
Arugula, Master and Margarita, Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for
American Revolutionaries.
Movies/Directors- Pedro Almodovar, Werner Herzog, Wong Kar-wai,
John Waters, Catherine Breillat, Alfred Hitchcock. Requiem for a
Dream, Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Secretary, Donnie Darko,
Idiocracy, A Clockwork Orange, Annie Hall, Lust, Caution, All About
Eve, Synecdoche, New York, Encounters at the End of the
World.
Music- I lean towards the indie variety but that doesn't really
mean anything. Arcade Fire, Calypso/Reggae, Bowie, Paul Simon
(& Garfunkel), David Byrne (& Talking Heads), Devendra
Banhart, Dresden Dolls, Elvis Perkins, John Vanderslice, Leonard
Cohen, Nick Drake, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Portishead, Seu Jorge,
Honey Honey, The Republic Tigers, Gin, M Ward, Regina Spektor,
Santigold, Beirut, Bon Iver, etc.
Food- I am a vegetarian who adores all manner of fresh,
well-prepared foods. I try to eat locally when possible- I hit the
farmer’s markets all the time in the summer. I love trying new
cuisines and foods, especially if they involve dumplings.
The six things I could never do without
1. Chickpeas 2. MacBook 3. Intelligent discourse 4. Sunlight
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to replicate the amazing Burmese tofu salad I just had at
YoMa.
Elitism. Mulling over different solutions to any number of
problems. How profoundly fucked up the world can be and if I can
possibly change any of it.
On a typical Friday night I am
I usually like to decompress with a good book or movie on Fridays
but the lure of good friends, good food and good music can often
tempt me to go out.
