Somewhere along the way I learned to be a bit of a silver tongue. I make people laugh, I give thoughtful compliments, and I'm generally pretty chill to be around. I give advice to people who ask for it, and I take advice from people who know more than me.

I am considerate and polite by default, but if I really like you, I drop any pretext of being serious and get playful and smartassy. But when it matters, I have your back, and when you need me, I'm there.

Saving money and learning languages so I can quit my job, travel to a few different continents and soak up some culture, then settle somewhere else.

But I don't mean to imply I dislike my job; it's actually pretty cool. I do IT work at a datacenter in Phoenix, and I spend a fair amount of time away from a desk and working with my hands on big servers and bundles of ethernet cables. Tentative plan: Make a career out of this and eventually work at a place like ICANN, which would let me leverage pretty much every skill I have at one job.

You know that cliched question about what you would do with your life if money didn't matter anymore? I'd learn languages. I mean, I do it anyway, but if I could do it exclusively, I would. I spent a few years getting pretty good at Japanese, language of Nerd, and a few months back started French, language of Snoot. I'm aiming to know 5 by the time I'm 30.

Beard maintenance.

Music is the only thing I'm a shameless hipster about. Wikipedia calls my favorite music genre "the early 2000s post-punk revival." When I'm an old man I'll still be listening to The Libertines, The Strokes, The Rifles, The Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Good Shoes, Babyshambles, The Maccabees (their old stuff, anyway), etc. Besides that glorious half-decade's music, I listen to some electronica, have dabbled in some hiphop/r&b, and I have just fewer than 10 Japanese bands that I absolutely adore. My flavor of the month is a Japanese woman called Kumisolo who moved to France and started making trilingual music, who all on her own motivated me to finally start learning French.

If I die in the next few months, my biggest regret will be not seeing the end of Breaking Bad.

Politics, biology, geology, learning, human interaction, space, the Earth's future, my future, American culture, foreign cultures, cool places to live, etc.

I can't grow a mustache.

If you're bilingual you get massive bonus points. If you're not, that's cool too, as long as you'll tolerate the CD full of Japanese music in my car. Don't worry, it's not J-Pop.
