I won't presume to be so self-aware that I can accurately answer this question. But here is what my friends say:

My friend J says this when she's introducing me to people:
"[andyash] is a true Renaissance man. He does it all. He's a lawyer. He teaches. He photographs. He writes. He plays guitar. He sings like an angel."

My friend S says:
"You're caring. You think of others a lot, probably to a fault."

My friend A says:

What am I doing with my life? Geesh, this question sounds like my grandmother. But I guess the answer depends on who is asking and when you catch me:

If you are a future employer, then I am diligently spending my time working as a commercial litigation attorney and focusing all my thoughts on complex securities transactions.

If you are a potential romantic interest, then I spend my time aggressively pursuing all that life has to offer by constantly trying to place myself outside my comfort zone; by zealously learning about the world though books, and music, and through various social interactions; by seeing the world through other people's passions and sharing my own; by experiencing all things with a certain optimism of hoping to be surprised and challenged at every turn. The only thing missing of course, is someone like you to share it with. You know, some crap like that.

If you are asking me after I've had a few glasses of wine at dinner, then I probably am looking for little more out of life than to savor the current experience and enjoy whatever song is playing - and I would appreciate you not ruining such a delightful evening with a potentially existentially depressing question. Can't we just enjoy the view and this overpriced glass of wine and figure out what we're doing with our lives tomorrow?

Besides the enviable skill of being immune to mosquito bites, I would say I'm an excellent photographer and enjoy doing portraits.

People notice the back of my head as I'm running away and usually scream utterances at me such as "Come back with my wallet!"

(a) I like books by David Sedaris, Asimov, Zadie Smith. But really anything. It takes me a while to start a book, and a while to end a book. But I read the middle quickly. It takes me a day or two to get into it. Then I get excited and read through it quickly or stay up all night reading. Then I get near the end and I get sad my adventure is over so I slow down. This paragraph may or may not be TMI.
(b) I like movies by Tarantino, Kurosawa, Kubrick, Woody Allen because they are great storytellers and creators.
(c) Mostly old school things. A small sampling from oldest to newest: Mozart, Gershwin, Beatles, CCR, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bon Iver, Avett Brothers. My latest love is Esperanza Spalding
(d) Chocolate

The next adventure.

The only typical thing about a Friday is that I'm doing "something." A good Friday seems key to making the weekend seem more full. Recent Fridays have included drinking, movieing, musicaling, airplaning, reading, movie editing, working, baking.

I feel there just are not enough pictures of cats on the internet.

If you are empathetic towards others, intellectually curious and smile a lot, then I am going to like you. And if it helps speed things up ... I'm pretty liberal (especially on all social issues) and not at all religious.
