I am sophisticated, curious, and friendly.

My Self-Summary

I found out about this site through DateWrecks.com, a very funny blog that makes fun of insane and shockingly bad dating profiles. So I don't take OkCupid as seriously as some might, but since I love chatting with interesting and intelligent people, and I also enjoy a good laugh, I can't lose no matter who I meet here!

I'm always looking for experiences that are inspiring, challenging, and new. I love literature and the arts. I enjoy reading books, playing music, listening to the radio, and especially watching movies. I also like going to a good sports bar/grill for hockey games, or to a theater for a good concert or show. So basically, I can have fun in or out of the house, and I'm always willing to try something different.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm thinking of getting into broadcasting or media production. Something where I can either make myself heard, or at least help other deserving people be heard.

I've just graduated from SUNY Buffalo with an English BA, and I'm gathering some new skills and experiences before grad school. I'm interning at WBFO (88.7 FM) where I'm learning the basics in radio broadcasting. I'm also doing fundraising phone calls for a non-profit organization. I might go for an M.A. in Communications, Film Studies, or Arts Management, depending on what direction my next few jobs take me, but for now, it's time for my first big steps into the real world.

I’m really good at

*Recommending really good movies*
*Writing*
*Leading Discussions*
*Crossword Puzzles*
*Minesweeper*
*Singing*
*Playing the guitar and ukulele*
*Working fast*
*Cooking*

The first things people usually notice about me

Here are some of the things I've heard from other people:

I have a good "radio voice".
I'm easy to chat with and a very good listener.
I smile a lot. This makes most people want to smile back and a rare few wonder if I'm up to something devious.
I'm smart, mature, and sophisticated, even for my age.
I'm polite and trustworthy even when I'm a stranger to someone.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: "A Year At the Movies: One Man's Filmgoing Odyssey", "Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass", and "Persepolis" are all books I could read over and over again. But I've read a lot of books, and I've especially loved the works I've read of Shakespeare, Wilde, Twain, Melville, Faulkner, and Zola.

Movies: My personal favorite is Lost in Translation. I'm also a big fan of Casablanca, Cabaret, Ed Wood, Fargo, It's A Wonderful Life, and several films from Kurosawa, Scorsese, Kubrick, Hitchcock, Bergman, Fellini, Bunuel, and Coppola just to name a few. I'm a huge film fan and have seen a lot of great movies you may not know about yet.

Music: Queen, The Beatles, The Dropkick Murphys, The Swell Season, Enya, Led Zeppelin, The Who, AC/DC

Food: Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Pub/Grill Food, Pizza/Wings, Home-cooked Italian or comfort food.

The six things I could never do without

The ukulele: the only instrument I can't play a depressing song on.
My personal library: 120+ books, 180+ DVDs. I'm set on home entertainment, and can fight my internet addiction when I'm not working.
My recipes: If I couldn't cook, I'd be living on frozen or canned goods, ramen noodles, and fast food. Ick.
Naked brand juice: Delicious, refreshing, and healthy. At three bucks a bottle, think of all the junk food I haven't been able to buy!
Public radio: The antidote to loud morning dj's, one-sided political talk shows, and Top 40 music.
Alternate cinemas (Drive-Ins, Cinema Cafes, Second Run Houses, and Art Theaters): So I don't have to rely on Regal for a night at the movies and can often see something better and cheaper.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

- How to be the best radio intern or phone fundraiser I can possibly be now.
- How to be the best writer, grad student, journalist, or broadcaster I can possibly be in the future.
- Where I'll be this time next year
- What I'll be doing this Friday night

On a typical Friday night I am

Depending on the week or who I'm with:

- Doing volunteer work for events in downtown Buffalo
- Hanging out with the guys
- Going to the Amherst Pizza and Ale House with my best friend for a Sabres game
- Watching my latest Netflix rental on my digital projector

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

When I was a teen, my first ever relationship took place entirely online with a girl I never actually met. I was so naive, I took it incredibly seriously at the time. I was convinced we were going to get together and be married some day.

I can admit this now that I've grown up and gotten smarter, more confident, and more realistic. To this day, I don't believe in long distance relationships.

You should message me if

As long as you're confident that you're mature, exciting, and fun to talk to, feel free to message me. I have very high standards about who I'll respond to, but don't let that keep you from trying. In fact, leave the best first impression you possibly can.

And even if you're not interested, please check out DateWrecks.com If you've ever had any creepy or off-putting experiences in the online dating world, you're in for real treat.
