My self-summary
I'm a much better conversationalist than internet profile writer. I will therefore write a list of my strong likes and dislikes. Lists are often useful.

Strong likes: musicals, Scrabble, witty banter, cribbage, podcasts (This American Life, The Moth, Radiolab), record stores and records, glasses, Seattle history, maps, singing, Ethiopian food, octopuses, whiskey, trashy celebrity magazines, and pub quizzes.

If an old man likes it, chances are I do as well.

Strong dislikes: passive-aggressive behavior, bad grammar, shopping malls (I have a phobia), and libertarianism
What I’m doing with my life
Finding good friends in unexpected places. Trying to be some form of an adult.
I’m really good at
puns, trivia, crossword puzzles, telling stories, smizing, parallel parking, reading out loud, accidentally learning all the words to pop songs.
The first things people usually notice about me
my loud laugh, dry wit, and quick conversational response time.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite authors include Jeffery Eugenides, Sarah Vowell, Salman Rushdie, Jonathan Safran Foer, David Sedaris, and Jhumpa Lahiri.

A Fish Called Wanda or The Princess Bride will lure me out of any sort of unhappy mood and E.T. will always scare me. The Station Agent is definitely on the top 10 list. Anything Mel Brooks touches is gold in my book.

I watch entirely too much television on the internet, but The Wire, The West Wing, and Arrested Development are probably my favorites. And I love Jeopardy! Nothing sets up a good night quite like nailing the Final Jeopardy! question.

My music taste is very easily influenced. It tends toward indie rock bands but I have soft spots for 60s-era folk, showtunes, and Top 40. Old and current favorites include: The Mountain Goats, Simon & Garfunkel (and Simon), Bob Dylan, The National, Pete Seeger, Patsy Cline, Bruce Springsteen, Neko Case. My tolerance for cheesy pop music is probably higher than most.

I love food. If I haven't had it before, I will probably love it even more. Regular cravings include bulgogi, pancakes, and New York pizza.
The six things I could never do without
people who know me well and call me out on bull pucky, a comfortable pair of sneakers, folk songs, NPR, laughter, and sarcasm
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how small Seattle is, my next meal, the chapter names of the memoir I have yet to write
On a typical Friday night I am
Working? Having a beer with friends? Going to a show? Reading? All of these things have happened on recent Fridays.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I read the New York Times wedding announcements every single week. Not because I'm particularly romantic but because occasionally I see someone I vaguely know and it's exciting.

I have a strong personality and a lot of opinions but I don't always like to take the lead.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 28–40
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
you notice details, you get turned on by witty repartee, you enjoy knowing about current events and politics even if you don't always like discussing them, you are equally at home in a dive bar and a museum.

or if you want to introduce me to your favorite beer or whiskey or cuisine and see where things go.

if you don't vote, don't bother contacting me. we can't be friends.
