My Self-Summary

Edit: After re-reading some of this, it occurs to me some of it is dated. This is a true testament to my personality, though circumstances have changed in the last couple of years. Inquire within.

I'm a rationalist, an atheist and a masochist. I'm submissive and stubborn, a hopeful cynic and dark with humor to suit; I'm a smart ass, sarcastic and any number of words that equates to generally abrasive. Speaking of abrasive, I'm honest to a fault, and it tends to get me into trouble and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I read, play games, hang out and generally kill time. I look for love and settle for less. I'm tall, dark and average. I love body mods in all shapes and sizes; I have a couple of tattoos and hope to add to that. I hope to never say I'm "educated", I never want the process of learning to be over; I want to always be looking for a higher education, and I want my definition of it to change as I do. I'm bored and filled with apocalyptic ennui, living in the hand punched extra hole in the Baptist belt.

I'm slow and sharp of wit, intelligent and thoughtful. I'd rather spend an afternoon sitting around with people I care about than going out. The only cows I eat are sacred. I'm strongly for personal choice, freedom and responsibility; I'm a left-leaning libertarian. I like animals more than most people and yes, that's meant to be taken both ways. I'm a nerd and a gamer, a good listener and repository of secrets. This last sentence is to make it say "Self-summarized in 1337 brilliant characters," ha!

What I’m doing with my life

Going to college, wasting time. I'm studying to be a biomedical engineer, with hopes of getting an advanced degree in genetic engineering. No, I'm not going to be a mad scientist; I'll be a mad engineer. Get it right. I'd like to have part in moving towards the posthuman.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at really little. I'm really bad at selling myself. I read fast. I write very well but I find it a chore. I can correctly make use of a semicolon (You laugh but they aren't for amateurs). I'm good at making chainmail jewelry. I'm good at making people laugh.. or extremely uncomfortable. It's largely dependent on how poorly adjusted you are. I'm a master of cuddling. I'm great at finding flaws and logical inconsistencies. I'm not a half bad flirt either, but that's entirely unintentional (except when it's not). (I also rock parenthetical phrases)

The first things people usually notice about me

The Jew-fro (no longer valid, give it a couple months though). The fact that I'm the person not saying much but watching everything.. or that I just said something that I wasn't supposed to.

Oh, yeah, my winning smile and sunny disposition.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: My favorite book tends to be the last one I read and I tend to donate my expensive book habit off to the library as I read them so I can't go looking through my shelf for titles. I mostly stick to fiction, particularly fantasy, horror and sci-fi and it's always good to have a dark twist to it. Post-apocalyptic stories and dystopian futures also light my fire. My non-fiction tends to come in the form of science texts.I'm currently on a Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett kick. I'm also trying to see if Vonnegut is worth the hype. So it goes.I love books in general... I think historical fiction is an entirely invalid genre though. Sorry history majors..

Movies: I like psychological thrillers, love stories, snuff films and chick flicks. I'm not too passionate about movies but I think they're a great and fun way to kill a couple of hours.

Music: I love music and my taste is all over the place, some of our interests are bound to over lap. My major likes these days, which are prone to change without notice, and certainly not the full extent of the (too long) list, are (in roughly alphabetical order..):
Bastard Fairies, Bright Eyes, Bo Burnhand, Cake, Cruxshadows, the Cure, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Decemberists, Dresden Dolls, Ego Likeness, the Faint, Garbage, gODHEAD, Horrorpops, Jack Off Jill (and more recent incarnation Scarling), Manson, Metric, Mother Mother, Nekromantix, the Pierces, Pink Floyd, Regina Spektor, Simon and Garfunkel, Switchblade Symphony, Tiger Army, the Unicorns and Voltaire.
I don't care for country and bluegrass; psychobilly is about as close as I can stand. I don't care for rap unless they're white and British, an oddly big sub-genre. I know, I know, "I like it all but rap and country" is cliche but it's true.. that fact it's a popular enough opinion to have become cliche might say something though. (Audiophiles do it on both sides) I'm also tone deaf. Go figure.

Food: I like food, most any kind. I have a soft spot for vegetarian things even though I'm no longer in their ranks. My tastes tend to be pretty simple... I love cherry blow pops though.

The six things I could never do without

Oh, what to put without sounding trite. I'm a big fan of electricity and internets.. central air. Books and music. I'm proving I could do without affection but it's not desirable to do so. Wow. That was very trite. Oops.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Everything. I over-think and over-analyze like holy woah. I'm trying to cut down though, I promise. I won't dig deeper than 3-4 subtexts, really.

A non-Newtonian universe. It's a bit like seeing the magic eye pictures, you gotta screw up your focus and have things as you know it blur before the image becomes clear.

Women-folk. I mean it's an inexhaustible subject to think about.

Comparing the Utopian world as defined in my head to the Dystopian future that draws unerringly closer.

Whatever political, moral, spiritual, personal quandary has my attention this moment.

What comes next.

On a typical Friday night I am

Sitting around, either chatting at home or with a couple of friends, out. I tend to go through short bursts of a social life so it's hard to tell.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I like boxes. I believe strongly that things belong in other things. Not on the wall.

I use my unused processing power on my computer to search for aliens.

My piss poor success rate on here. I'm currently working on a graph of responsiveness v awesomeness comparing single to unavailable ones. The graphs are opposing, oddly enough.

You should message me if

You're a girl who would tell me every night before I went to sleep, "Good work, sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning." Oh, to have a lovely dread piratess.

Or if you actually managed to make it to the end of my profile, I'd love to hear what you think.
