My name is Kent, I'm eccentric and pretty nerdy (science wise). I own things like kilts, a microscope, and body piercing equipment. Wish to find beauty in reality, and I find that in both art and science.
I'm very serious about dating, and very straightforward about myself and what I've determined that I want. I'd like to find someone who is intelligent, honest, loyal, curious, compassionate, and has a good sense of humor. I'm looking for a long-term partner to have a kid(s) with (this could be through adoption or biological birth). I'm also perfectly fine with dating someone who has a child (or children).
I love animals and have a cat named Bast, and will probably get a second to keep him company. I care very much for the earth and conservation, and am very supportive of scientific advances like GMOs; I need to have these traits in a partner.
Also, I'm a defacto atheist, but I think I'm very spiritual... if that is confusing to you, then just ask. Unless you can offer me evidence of your god(s), I will probably not get along with you if we ever talk about religion. After searching for a god for 28 years, I came to the conclusion that my brain is incapable of blind faith, and I can find that beauty through the pursuit of science. Very sex and body positive, and fetish friendly.
What I’m doing with my life
I recently finished BSs in Biology and Biochemistry/Biotechnology and have an excellent job as the lab manager for a small toxicology lab. I have a previous degree that I use in a hospital, where I still work ~2 shifts a month to remain an active employee, and because I love the job. Having successfully switched careers, I'm taking a break from school before graduate school, and to decide if I want an MS or PhD. An MS would start in the fall, PhD likely the next fall. I previously was a professional piercer and am very interested in body modifcation.
I really want to become fluent in Spanish, so next semester I'm taking a class at STLCC. I can kind of read in Spanish (very poorly), and barely talk in it (also very poorly).
I’m really good at
Being curious, being fascinated by everything, and learning from the (many) mistakes I've made. I love to cook.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have tattoos on my arms, and I look like Robin Williams.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I read a lot of textbooks about biology and chemistry. I also like to read dystopian fiction, philosophy, science news and science fiction. I like reading sciencedaily.com and random things I find on the internet. I honestly like reading research papers in the fields that interest me, and I occasionally read Nature.
Movies: I like movies and tv shows of the same genres as my books. I love documentaries and seeing how others thing and live their lives. I watch tv series like the Big Bang Theory, Once Upon a Time, How I Met Your Mother, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park, the Stargates, The League, and the Office, Star Trek and BSG 75.
Music: Pretty random too, I listen to Pandora a lot. Staples are classical music, symphonic metal, psychadelic trance, and industrial music. digitalgunfire.com is my favorite station/stream.
Food: Yes, anything. I love trying new things, and attempting to cook. My favorite genres are Indian, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and Japanese.
I like video games, and have really been into Final Fantasy 14, when I have time. I generally like the story content of RPGs, but usually don't have enough time to enjoy them, and like adventure games that I can just play for a little bit at a time.
The six things I could never do without
Friends/family, curiosity, hypothesis testing, google calendar, Excell (or another spreadsheet manager), the internet.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Ethics, biotechnology, spirituality, belief and lack of it, body modification, biology, genetics, chemistry, psychology, physics. I've recently gotten interested in finance and economics, but my knowledge is very basic.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working, studying, or hanging out with friends. This is probably
what everyone says.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I bought enough Thin Mints to be able to eat one a day until next year when they're sold again. I freeze them, and use eating one as behavioral reinforcement for accomplishing all I want to in a day. I do not get the reward every day.
You should message me if
You think we'd get along. You are curious and love learning. You are passionate about something I am, or more importantly something that I am not or know little about. I also need someone who either has their shit together or is following a plan for it. I was honestly very immature and irresponsible for a long while, and I'm ready to meet another adult. I'm trying to be honest in my profile, which will probably lead to fewer dates, but I already feel complete in my life, so I can accept the possibility of not finding someone. However, I do wish to find someone, but the right someone.
Having finished school, I want to seriously focus on other goals, like finding a companion (and buying a house, getting involved in stocks, creating a business, getting ALOT more tattoos/scarifications, etc). I really can't stand dishonesty or cheaters. One of my previous girlfriends cheated on me twice before I had the fortitude to cut her out of my life. I will always be honest with you, so please return the favor.
I can't date anyone who hates GMOs, is racist/homophobic/transphobic, denies evolution, or is anti-vax. If you are one of these, I am willing to look at your extensive and peer-reviewed research to change my mind on the matter.
