My self-summary
When asked to describe me in three words, my friends responded with the following:
outgoing, erudite, worldly
brainy, introspective, inadvertent
charming, ebullient, adorable
thoughtful, outgoing, and dead-sexy
Intelligent, introspective, open, brave (that's four, but take your pick)
Goodatdecorating, greatatmakingfajitas, evenbetteratmakingmargaritas

I used to consider myself more of a thinker than a doer, but that's really changed over the last four years. I love dancing, driving, running, hiking and trying new things. I do still think an awful lot though.

I love the outdoors and natural beauty—wherever it can be found, be it in waterfall fog tumbling over the hills of the California coast or one of my middle school students showing genuine kindness to each other. (I now teach college students--they're much less adorable, but definitely have their own perks. I am humbled every semester when I read their "turning-point" essays and realize what they have overcome to make it where they are.)
The first things people usually notice about me
smile, laugh, eyes, thoughtfulness (probably in that order)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: How We Decide, Black Ice... I tend to get more infatuated with ideas than books, honestly.
Movies: 25th Hour, You Can Count on Me, American Beauty
Music: Rodrigo y Gabriela, Jose Gonzales, Imogen Heap, Chris Pureka, Tiesto
The six things I could never do without
Connection
Meaningful work
Mascara (go ahead, judge.)
Natural beauty within running distance
Possibilities
Spellcheck
I spend a lot of time thinking about
everything... it's a problem
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I can’t spell to save my life (something that comes up often on my student evaluations), I get really bored with cooking and, despite teaching reading, I’d rather you summarized a book for me, or gifted it to me on iTunes, or—ideally—read it to me (but I’d be really happy to talk with you about the ideas in it at length).
