My self-summary
I've lived all over the US and have traveled in several countries. I like to travel near and far. I enjoy learning and experiencing new things.

I like the woods and the city. I like living in one with access to the other. I also like big towns/small cities that have lots of culture and community (Portsmouth, NH; Ithaca,NY; Glens Falls, NY)

My family and friends are important aspects of my life. We live a bit spread out but they are all very important.

I'm a pretty open-minded person but I can be very opinionated about certain things. I don't try to shove my beliefs onto a person but I will occasionally be vocal about them. I do like to date someone with some similiar beliefs. The main one would be to not be judgemental and aware that all types of people exsist in all types of people. Being conscientious of our impact on others and the universe at large is also something I hold in high regard.

I am eclectic, perceptive, and creative

What I’m doing with my life
Mostly trying to live it one day at a time. Cherishing the good and dealing the best I can with the bad.

I do have some goals for the future but I know (unfortunatly from lots of experience) that life can get in the way.

I do roller derby. This is increasingly becoming a big part of my life. It is like having a second job. It is more than just a sport. We run the whole thing. We function much like a co-op. It is such a great social experiment and I love being a part of it.

I’m really good at
Being clumsy!

I think alot. My mind is always spinning in multiple directions.

Reading. I read multiple books at once but only one fiction at a time. I can read 4 books in a day or take 2 weeks to finish one.

Pretty good at writing. Most of my writing is journaling and letters to friends. I have started a few books but those were lost recently :( I plan on restarting in that area. I also occasionally do poetry.

I'm creative in all things I do. It is just part of my nature. Specific art things I enjoy and have varying degrees of success at: sculpture, weaving, jewelry making, and painting. I haven't done much lately. I plan on fixing this problem soon as I am trying to create an art area in my apartment so I don't have to go to the basement for my supplies. I am also trying to make time for art.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I've got such varied tastes and hate to try to pick my top 5 0r 10. I will if you really want me to but for here and now I'll just give some longish summaries of my tastes.

Books: Sci-fi (Heinlein, Spider Robinson, Adams, Huxley, Le Guin, Allen Steele) and Mystery mostly when it comes to fiction. Someone once said that fiction is like crack. I would have to agree but at least it helps your mind and is not detrimental to it. I read in spurts but supplement in between with short stories. I'm more into watching Shakespeare than reading him but I have on occassion. I'll read a random old book (early 20th century usually) or childrens book I find at the library and garage sales. Random authors: Hemingway, Twain, Hunter S. Thompson, Jane Austen, Robert Lois Stevenson, Louisa May Alcott. I do want to get into more modern writers that are out side of sci-fi like Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk and Tom Robbins. I also would like to read more older classics, especially Russian and French. I'm into Graphic Novels...Frank Miller and Alan Moore mostly. Used to be into the Marvel Universe when I was younger. Have read some Image and Dark Horse here and there years ago (?get into again). Poetry I like: Lord Byron, ee cummings and Kerouac ...I dig his prose too.
I read lots of non-fiction as well: archaeology, history, social stuff, science (articles mostly), and the occassional memoir.

Movies: Lord of the Rings, both King Kongs, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, Superman, Xmen, The Shield movies, Unbreakable, Pan's Labrynth], Scanner Darkly, Waking Life, 100 Cigarettes, Tombstone, Boondock Saints. Period Stuff: Quills, Vatel, The Libertine, Vanity Fair, anything Jane Austen related. Woody Allen films. Anything Johnny Depp esp The Man Who Cried, Chocolate, and Benny and June. Anything Tim Burton: esp Bigfish, James and the Giant Peach, his Batmans are my favs. Both his and the Gene Wilder Willy Wonkas. Some horror: first few SAW movies (esp first), anything Zombie (Redneck Zombies being the first one I saw so I have a special love for), Toxic Avenger, The Omen, The Shining (the Shinig was good too..extra credit if you know where that is from). Some kids movies. Foriegn films. Short Films. Some Documentaries...especially the short ones. Porn...especially cheesy horror porn and movie spoof porn (Sex Trek anyone?).

Music: mostly 60's/70's rock and roll (doors, led zeppelin, beatles, pink floyd, ccr, cream, janis joplin, allman bros, steve miller). Also a big fan of jazz, metal (death, prog and basic metal...Megadeth over Metallica) and electronic (mostly ambient, jungle and industrial). I like "90's alt" (Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Offspring!, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers!, Pearl Jam, Cake!) some country--older stuff, bluegrass, and some of the newer "hellbilly", some rap, punk, and quirky mixes of various types of music that strike my fancy like Boombox, Japanther, Mars Volta, Mathematics, Beware! the other head of science, Balkan Beatbox, Gogol Bordello. Classical: Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky mostly. I like international music. Big fan of just about anything with Bagpipes. Indian dance/club/electronic music is pretty damn cool. I like reggae: the classics and the newer stuff like John Brown's Body and Matisyahu. Reggaeton is pretty cool too. Anything that Les Claypool is involved in gets two thumbs up! I like "jam" music. A few of my favs are Raisenhead, The Disco Biscuits, and buddhahood. I'm a Deadhead and also go see Darkstar Orchestra. A few other random bands/musicians I like: Tom Petty, Cranberries, U2, Madonna, Amy Winehouse, and I could go on and bore you more so I'll stop :)

Food: Anything Mediteranean. Most Asian: especially Thai and Japanese. Mexican!, El Salvadorian, Brazilian Gaucho, Indian, Ethiopian, French, German!, Russian, Polish, Ukranian, I like food :)
Also I consider myself Semi-Vegetarian. I am trying to be ethical about my food choices as best as I can. I could possibly be full Veg someday but never Vegan. I know how to cook vegan though and can make bake goods that are :)

I spend a lot of time thinking about
I do think a lot....Possibly too much. At least about some things.
I guess just see my interests and my thoughts follow those directions.
My mind works like a spiderweb. Everything is connected and goes in multiple directions. There is a strange kind of order and sense to it. I'll just daydream about some random thing that I somehow got reminded of because of something I read.
I try to not worry as much as I used to. Dwelling on the past and focusing too much on the future both incapacitate the present.
Lately I think a lot about Roller Derby. It's my newest obsession.
I try to think of ways I can be a better person to myself, my family, my friends, my city, the world, and the universe.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have been a TV junkie at times but I generally try to stay away. Especially of propaganda: shows like 24 and commercials. I download and Netflix. I do have a few box sets (Muppets and Fraggle Rock anyone?) I'm just coming out of a recent junky faze and weening myself off by trying to not add any more new shows.TV wise I'm down to Simpsons, Family Guy, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Dexter, Lost, Heroes, Burn Notice, Bones, Smallville, occassionally adult swim and HGTV.

Strange facts: I just got done watching all 12 seasons of Murder She Wrote (3 months). I also watched a whole season of Sex in the City in one day while sorting my books and going through boxes of papers from old moves.
