My self-summary
I've lived in the Seattle area for more than a decade, but I still consider myself a transplant. I'm originally from Houston, but I've never had an accent and I've never owned a pair of cowboy boots. I'm not even that fond of BBQ, and I don't like country music!

In a previous life I was a software developer, but realized it was something I could do, but not something I really enjoyed. So I went to grad school, found my calling as an information professional, and earned an MLIS degree. Now I'm a PM at Microsoft Research doing all sorts of things including research on Richard Feynman, Big History, scientific publication tools, and web stuff.

Although my friends may not agree -- I'm definitely an introvert. I can put on a good act when I'm around people, but I always need to recharge on my own. I guess that's why I've never felt the need to always be in a relationship and consequently I haven't spent much time dating or in relationships.

The only interest I have in politics is the comedic fodder it provides for The Daily Show and Colbert Report.

I am risk-averse, thoughtful, and sensitive.
What I’m doing with my life
I’m not sure what I should be called. Information architect, user experience designer, information professional, take your pick... I like designing stuff that solves problems dealing with information and people using technolgies like the web and software. Above all though, I like interesting conversations and learning new things.
I’m really good at
Problem-solving. Making absurd Photoshop creations. Listening. Providing thoughtful feedback. Amusing my friends with dark and occasionally inappropriate humor. Analyzing, re-analyzing and over-analyzing things. Playing devil's advocate. Being a good friend. Planning for worst case scenarios. Not taking myself too seriously. Spotting the missing semicolon in a long block of code. Spotting grammatical and spelling errors.

Note: This entire section was written for me by a friend. I didn't know what to put here so I did some user research! :-)

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm a little ashamed to admit it (being a "librarian" and all), but I don't often read for pleasure anymore. I have been corrupted by TV, movies, video games, and the intarwebs.

Here's a combined A-Z list of my favorite TV and movies. It's mostly based on my 5 star ratings in Netflix, with a little creative juggling...

Army of Darkness, Black Adder, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Dexter, Edward Scissorhands, Fantastic Voyage, Godzilla: Final Wars, Happiness of the Katakuris, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Joe's Apartment, Kill Bill, Little Shop of Horrors (both), May, Night of the Living Dead, Office Space, Pushing Daisies, Q - The Winged Serpent, Red Dwarf, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Time Bandits, Uzumaki, V: The Original Miniseries, Westworld, X-Men, Young Frankenstein, Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain

I almost exclusively listen to C89.5. In high school I learned all the lyrics to a number of rap songs, and can still rap out several Young MC songs, C&C Music Factory's Everybody Dance Now, and 3am Eternal by the KLF. I also like the bizarre and funny -- recently a friend introduced me to some songs by David Allan Coe. In general though, I don't like country. I often sing in the safety of my car, and am not afraid to belt out Cascada's Miracle, or other tunes that guys should probably not sing. ;-) I also really like mashups!

I'm pretty flexible when it comes to food. I'm up for American, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, etc. But I tend to have an aversion to vegetables, and I avoid fish. Certain types of sushi is ok -- Blue C's seared tuna and eel are pretty awesome. Unless it is well hidden and seasoned to the point of being undetectable, I won't eat salmon or other fish. It's all too "fishy". Nutella is also very important.
The six things I could never do without
In no particular order...

Learning (school, internet, books, etc.)
Entertainment (video games, TV/movies, internet, boardgames)
Information (both for learning and entertainment)
Basic Necessities (food, shelter, clothing, etc.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
This is difficult to answer, because I think about lots of things, and my focus changes from time to time! Games are always rattling around in my noggin though, and not just my interest in playing them, but also what we can learn from them. Recent science and technology research is in there too. Finally, there’s an ever present layer of silliness that co-exists with whatever else I might be thinking about. ;-)
On a typical Friday night I am

I should qualify that -- if I need to be somewhere at a certain time, like for a movie, I'll be there on time. But if it's a more nebulous meeting up kind of thing I probably won't be the first to arrive...

Friday nights you can usually find me playing boardgames and/or going out to dinner with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have been told that I am a terrible, yet extremely lucky driver. I think I'm just misunderstood. Plus, I've never been in an accident! :-)
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 26–45
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
I've realized over time that I'm attracted to intelligent, somewhat opinionated, intriguing, funny women. I'm something of a strange duck, and I'm kind of hoping you are too. :-)
