kind, thoughtful, and changeable
My self-summary Propose an edit
I am a poet, a
librarian and a
mum. I am good at empathy, bad at practicality. When I know you
well I will make you laugh, give you great advice and never betray
you. I love the
outdoors but need my home comforts. I care less about money and
achievement than happiness and integrity. I am probably something of
a hippy in fact (I'm even a vegan), BUT fyi I find that poi thing and
anyone who does it incredibly irritating. Tolerant of most other
things except arrogance and pretension. I am also a dilettante with a short
attention span - this is why I write poems and not novels.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I work in a language resource centre/library at a university for
half the week, and look after my daughter (born December 2006) for
the other half. Other things I do with my life: read almost constantly, write (poems,
reviews, attempts at crime fiction), solve crosswords, play backgammon, go for walks, potter about.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Listening. Understanding. Writing. Worrying. Multitasking.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Glasses. Nice
smile. I may occasionally appear to a) hate you or b) have a stick
up my bum but this is because I am SHY. Honest.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Before answering this I must point out that I don't believe that
the things you like = who you are.
Books: Hitch Hikers Guide
to the Galaxy, Persuasion, Anne of Green Gables,
Howard's
End, The Princess Bride, Watchmen, The Member of the
Wedding, and lots of poetry. Favourite authors are probably
P.G.
Wodehouse, Carson McCullers, Jane Austen - how
GIRLY, yuck - and Raymond Carver.
Films: The
Big Lebowski. Oh there are more but the question is making me a
bit tired.
Music is too hard. This is TV instead:Peep Show, The West Wing, The Office, Spaced, Human Remains, Scrubs, Lost.
Food: any old vegan feast will do, but especially chilli, risotto,
curry, and Maya Gold chocolate.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
1. something to read 2. something to write with 3. hugs 4. conversation 5. (this used to say
cheese. How wrong I was.) 6. tea
Hm, it just occurred to me that I should have said public libraries as
well, although (1) might cover that I suppose.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Did I do anything really stupid/weird today? Have any of my loved
ones been in an accident? Have I paid the rent? What shall I have
for dinner? Is the world completely fucked or only a little bit
fucked?
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Watching DVDs (probably a TV comedy or a rubbish 80s film),
eating either a delicious home-cooked vegan meal or some chips,
depending how lazy we've been, maybe drinking wine.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I like sudoku. And
The Archers.
