I am creative, inquisitive, and hopeful.

My Self-Summary

A lot of change has been going on in my life and a good friend recently commented that I must feel like I'm getting a fresh start - and I do.

So, in that spirit I'm going to revamp my profile.

The first thing you should know about me is that I am creative and appreciate art of all kinds. I sing, I draw (charcoal and pastels) and I am an independent filmmaker (a relatively new passion).

But I'm not just artsy - my left and right brain are close to balanced. So I tend to think logically, am interested in science and medicine and know my way around the pythagorean theorem. ;)

I'm also insatiably curious and love to learn about and expereince new places, things and people.

What I’m doing with my life

I honestly believe that my life is only getting better, so I don't tend to spend time regretting my past or worrying about things I can't change. What's the point? It's much better to focus on the things you *can* do something about!

I am about to start a new job writing grants at a non-profit performing arts organization. I like the fact my job has meaning and I can feel good about what I'm doing.

Also, up until very recently all my spare time has been spent editing my film. Now it's time for festivals!

I’m really good at

I'm a good cook and a better baker(I've gotten marriage proposals based on some of my brownie recipes!) But I learned cooking for the family when I was young, so nothing too fancy. Although I've thought about taking a cooking class ...

I study classical voice and consider myself pretty good. I sing opera mostly, but have been know to belt out a jazz standard or indie rock tune when I'm dancing around to my ipod - in the privavcy of my own house, of course!

The first things people usually notice about me

This is easy - my smile. Strangers have stopped me on the street because of it. I'm in general a pretty cheerful, easy-going person and I think it comes through.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

OK, there is far too many "favorites" in all these categories - so I'll just pick a representative example.

One of my favortie movies is Memento, because you can't just watch - you have to think! It's a mystery that all comes together at the end (beginning?) It's gratifying because there's a twist, but every detail was leading your there as you watched.

I love to read when I have the time - which is not often enough.

I recently read "Cloud Atlas" which was brilliant and really makes you think about patterns in human behavior. I also read "The Time Travellers Wife" which, despite being on it's surface a science fiction novel, is in reality a beautiful love story. I literally sobbed for the last 100 pages.

I have really eclectic tastes in music - I am just as likely to be listening to Beck as Bach as The Beatles!

I love hearing new music of all kinds - mix CD's are one of the best gifts you can give me! I'll listen to anything once ...

The six things I could never do without

In no particular order ...

interesting, intelligent conversation
laughter
music
the internet (and my computer too)
good food
good people

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I always have a million things I need or want to do - so I spend a lot of time thinking about what I'm going to do at any given time and how to fit everything in.

I also spend time thinking about friends and family and what's going on in their lives.

On a typical Friday night I am

Friday nights tend to be the time I "chill" - so it's often a laid back evening in with my sister (ordering pizza and watching a DVD or the shows Psych and Monk) or practicing singing and getting to bed at a decent hour. I need to make up some of the sleep I lost from staying up too late during the week!

Saturday is the night I usually go out and do something fun like dinner and a movie with friends, seeing a band play or grabbing a beer at a pub. I like theater and art galleries, but don't have the chance to go as often as I'd like.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I was a total nerd in high school and painfully shy. (No one I know now believes it!)

My standard explanation is I was the girl boys asked to help with their Chemistry homework. Not the girl they asked to the Prom.

High School - you gotta love it, right?

You should message me if

I seem like someone you'd like to talk to.

Or maybe you seem like someone I'd like to talk to...

Either way, really ...
