My self-summary
Hello Hello :) I am a fun, quirky, intuitive, geek-proud proactive woman who does her best to strike a balance between my three passions in life: activism, being creative (art, photography, music, writing), and spirituality** (aka: Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth).

A balance between being easily amused & silly with having intelligent discussions/debates/taking responsibility for my existence.

I am an out and proud bisexual* woman (monogamy only) who is looking to find a kindred spirit who knows how to love/be loved, is good at communicating and shares my passions in life.

I'm looking for a person who believes friendship is the foundation for any romantic relationship, and who is comfortable in their own skin.

I'm not really into the "I'm definitely 24/7 femme or 24/7 butch" thing. I go with my mood.

Extra points if you're a fellow vegan (cus that's sexy)

Extra Extra points if you feel that gender roles (opposed to one's sex) is just a bunch of man-made crap that is a huge detriment the welfare of human beings.

Extra Extra EXTRA points if you're in a wheelchair because then we can race.

Being proactive and reliable is a must.

("If you're bisexual then why are you only looking for women on this dating site?" It's just easier to meet men than it is queer women and I've noticed that when I tell OKC that I am bisexual and open to meeting a person of any sex - it's as if my late grandmother takes over the site and suggests more men than woman on a good 1:35 ratio.)
What I’m doing with my life
Very much involved in the Occupy Wall Street movement. It's really influenced my activism and I've met some amazing friends/kindred spirits from there.

I've organized a variety of activist campaigns, for about 4 months after the hurricane, I ran a small vegan disaster relief kitchen that cooks meals for those in need due to hurricane sandy and/or for the workers/volunteers providing the disaster relief

and most recently, I made a documentary about that.
I’m really good at
amusing myself, being creative, making the best of what I have, figuring out solutions to problems, seeing the bigger picture, enjoying the simple moments in life, understanding concepts and explaining it to people and hugs(love hugs)

I've also been told I'm good at making people feel validated and comfortable in their feelings (and understanding where they are coming from/ sincere compassion.

People seem to like my cooking too :)
The first things people usually notice about me
I guess it depends on the person and what things they notice first.

People tend to notice when I eat, that I eat really healthy (and tasty) things.

My friends say they notice my smile (yes, I asked lol. This section stumped me lol). Some notice Betty (my motorized wheelchair of great awesomeness.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
BOOKS: There are 4 authors that have had a huge impact on my life.

Eckhart Tolle, Sherry Wolf, Howard Zinn and Nietzsche (though with Nietzsche it was more reading about the concept of free-will then his other writings. I have still yet to get through Thus Spoke Zarathustra)

I also like graphic novels. Oh, and I also dig Charles Bukowski. Other then that, I really enjoy reading non-fiction.

MUSIC: it varies per mood but here is the master list: :http://www.velvetland.org/music/MUSES/

Off the top of my head I would say... (ray lamontagne, system of a down, damien rice, janis joplin, fiona apple, dave matthews, the beatles, bob dylan, regina spektor, brandi carlile, kate nash, conor oberst, esperanza spalding swing, blues, doo-wop/motown, classical, classic rock, old school metal, hip hop that's intelligent/from the heart, jazz. I LOVE music.

MOVIES: I do love my netflix. I have a thing for documentaries. though I also love movies like the truman show, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Eyes Wide Open, pleasantville, being john malkovich, and more. I also love a good musical : hair, rocky horror picture show, chorus line, cabaret, jesus christ superstar, crybaby and some of the older musicals likethere's no business like show business. I am not a huge fan of action/adventure films unless it's more of the intelligent variety like XMen or something where it has a plot and isn't just explosions for the sake of explosions. Other then that - cartoons. Love cartoons. Also recently have gotten into Doctor Who

TV SHOWS: I watch very little TV and that's only before bed. I don't really enjoy sitting on the couch and watching TV unless it's for the purpose of putting me to sleep/winding down. I do like cooking shows, travel shows, antiques roadshow (and pbs in general) and Doctor Who (though that I watch via netflix.) I tend to like shows that get canceled.

FOOD: I tend to eat really healthy but will ask to smell your meal if you're not lol. The smell of freshly baked warm Italian bread makes me smile.

I'm 100% Vegan. That being said, I hang out with people of all kinds. Some are vegan, some would pray to Bacon if there was a church lol. However, I DO prefer to date vegans. I have made exceptions but it would be nice to share that with the person I am with, meal wise and cause-wise (plus the site of meat is a bit of turn off).

And while I DO eat pretty healthy, that being said, I LOVE to oogle at cakes and deliciously decadent culinary delights. (I once sat in a bookstore with a gal pal of mine and we just oogled for a good hour(s) at the many cookbooks lol)
The six things I could never do without
not in order of importance.

the balance of community and solitude
art/photography
activism
sleep/good food
writing/music
sunshine
(okay lol I cheated with the /'s)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
painting, new places to explore, activism, art, music, reading, writing, photography, cryptozoology, spirituality, friends/loved ones and connecting with people.
On a typical Friday night I am
It depends on the season, weather and my mood. I am a pretty low key person in that I am not one to hang out in bars these days. Sometimes I am with friends. Sometimes I am going solo. Sometimes I watching Netflix, sometimes I hang out in a park, or at a protest. I pretty much just go with the flow. I am more an early riser then a night owl :)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've come to the theory (near-conclusion but not quite) that while I am pretty flexible, certain things need to be there in a relationship in order for it work. I'm thinking (beyond the necessary communication skills, friendship as a foundation, and no games/bs) that I need to be with a person who understands my need to create, my love/need to be involved in activism, and my need/love for spirituality. I want to find someone who I can share those 3 things with because that's also a passion of theirs as well, (or has passions of their own so they understand having a passion in life)
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like girls
  • Ages 35–47
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
if you have a passion for activism, and/or creativity and/or spirituality. (extra points if you have points for all 3)

if you're a genuinely nice person (not to be confused with a doormat) who believes in being honest/upfront with people and expects the same.

if you have no problem being friends with people regardless of their sex.

If you're not afraid to be true to who you are, even if that means going against the grain
