My Self-Summary

I swear I'm witty and a good writer, just not on here! And apparently, I'm completely incapable of summarizing myself! Oh, the horror! Heehee. My username of 'artsygeekgirl' does give you an idea though... I'm artsy, a geek and a girl! Hee. I've been described as artistic (I'm a writer/photographer/actor/director), smart (for some things, anyway), multi-talented, passionate and sweet... I like cracking people up - which is good since I seem to be able to do at least every once in a while. I'm a bit quirky but I like to think it's endearing, rather than annoying. I joined this site on a whim. You just never can know what'll happen. Anyway, I'll try to be succinct (for once) and end this here but I'll likely edit it later. I swear I'm more interesting than this! ;P

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a writer and photographer but it's not easy making a living as an artist, so I work at a not-for-profit association in communications and on our website. I've been there for three years but definitely won't be staying there forever. I recently launched my professional photography website so things are definitely moving forward on that front... I don't know. I'm just living my life - finding happiness, connections and laughter wherever and whenever possible. Oh, god. That sounds so cheesy! Oh, well. I guess the first step is admitting it. Heehee.

I’m really good at

...photography, writing and making people laugh. I'm good with kids and animals; a little OCD about grammar and spelling; can kick ass at Scrabble, word games and poker; used to be athletic (until I hurt my knee), and - agh. I'm gonna stop now. Somehow this just seems really dorky and kinda arrogant. Hee.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm not sure. I don't generally ask friends and strangers, "What's the first thing you noticed about me?" I suppose I could ask whoever reads this thing and actually decides to message me! ;P That could be interesting, or totally traumatizing - depending. Hee.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

BOOKS: too many to mention but Outlander, The Time Traveler's Wife, The Smoke Jumper, The Loop, White Oleander, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Dolphin Chronicles, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius etc. etc. etc. I read A LOT. Heehee.

MOVIES: again - far too many, it depends on so many things but I suppose I should list a few anyway so, Before Sunset Before Sunrise, Serenity, You Can Count On Me, Braveheart (such a great score), Dear Frankie, Anne of Green Gables (fond childhood memories - so don't make fun), Speed (the first action movie I ever saw - I lived a very sheltered childhood but whatever, it's a guilty pleasure), The American President (gotta love Sorkin's dialogue - it's a credit to him that I even love this movie 'cause I'm not a fan of either Michael Douglas or Annette Benning), Aliens, Sense and Sensibility, The Matrix, Fight Club, Amélie, Love Actually, The Princess Bride, Reservoir Dogs, etc. I have rather eclectic taste - heehee.

TV: it seems as though all my favourite shows have been cancelled, Sports Night, Firefly, The West Wing, Felicity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, Freaks & Geeks, Arrested Development, etc. but I've still got The Office, Friday Night Lights, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Tonight Show with with Conan O'Brian and a few others still on the air...

MUSIC: acoustic, alternative, classical, rock, R&B, hip hop, almost everything really - except for maybe heavy metal, country and polka; so artists like Damien Rice, City and Colour, Radiohead, A Perfect Circle, Glen Hansard, Death Cab for Cutie, Sarah McLachlan, Joshua Radin, Erin McCarley, Matthew Good, Ghinzu etc.

FOOD: I wish I wasn't picky, but I am... Still, I love pizza, pasta, fruit smoothies, root beer, dill pickles, yummy homemade sandwiches, chicken fingers, chicken quesadillas, etc.

The six things I could never do without

1) the obvious - oxygen, food, water, shelter etc.
2) art - books, music, photography, film, good television, theatre etc.
3) technology - 24" iMac (although I've still got my noisy, annoying, slow PC), various digital cameras and my SLR, iPod, the internet etc.
4) laughter, sarcasm, irony and wit
5) friends and family
6) nature

P.S. I know I cheated a little (or was really clever, depending on your point of view!) by doubling and sometimes quadrupling answers and counting them as one but what can I say? I'm a rebel and a rule breaker, eh? ;P

I spend a lot of time thinking about

...connections between people and experiences, details and the big picture. I spend a lot of time getting inspired to write and create photographs from what I see around me. Oh, and I was gonna say something particularly brilliant, witty and profund here but alas, my brain's too tired! ;)

On a typical Friday night I am

...marathoning DVDs alone or with friends; working on my computer either writing or doing something photography-related; going on totally random adventures... It could be any number of things really.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm a pretty open person so chances are I just may tell you more than you need to know - not in a scary, disturbing 'overshare' kind of way but if you ask anything, I'll usually answer. So go ahead and ask. Make my day/night. Heehee.

You should message me if

...you love some of the same things I do or if anything I wrote even remotely held your interest - heehee. If one or more of my photos didn't make you run for the hills, or anything you read made you smile (even a little) or laugh - then definitely say, 'hi.' I hope I'm a teensy bit intriguing and/or interesting and that I'll hear from you soon.
