I am red-haired, lolful, and into the groove.

My Self-Summary

I'm a total homebody. However, I do recognize that it's healthy and even desirable to occasionally leave my incredibly comfortable surroundings in search of fun adventures. I am extremely low-maintenance. Mostly I read books, think about clothes, do subversive cross stitch, rub the belly of my sweet orange cat, and rearrange my Netflix queue. When I'm not doing all of that fascinating stuff, I'm always up for new/unfamiliar activities, especially if aforementioned fun includes burritos and/or cherry pie. I like to ski when I get the chance. I love photography. I have two older brothers, both of whom I adore. I really dislike socks. 98% of the time I'm wearing one of three outfits: a tank top with shorts or jeans, a t-shirt with jeans, or a hoodie with jeans. I keep it pretty simple. I love cold weather, despite being a born-and-bred Southerner.

Things I find sexy in guys: dark hair, an offensive sense of humor (dead baby jokes? yes, please), the holding open of doors, being willing to hug/cuddle on a reasonably unlimited basis, serious intelligence, being taller than I am, having a touch of the nerdy, bookworm-ness, a talent for planning non-traditional surprise dates

What I’m doing with my life

I'm finishing up a degree in Applied Linguistics. After that, I plan to go teach English on a small French island in the Caribbean for a year or so. When that starts to suck, I'll return to school for a master's in Library Science. I want to be a librarian because it's what makes the most sense. Well, as long as I'm a hot librarian. Not a scary one who wears polyester blouses and has warts.

I’m really good at

beating the crap out of you at Scrabble, making mix CDs, spelling, proofreading, and hooking up my electronics so that no wires show. I'm not bad at deep-frying things.

The first things people usually notice about me

are my short red hair, and maybe the fact that it's December and I'm still freaking wearing flip-flops.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I have way too many favorites to list here. Suffice it to say that most of my copious spare time is sucked up by reading; in particular, I read lots of chick lit (yes, the books with the bright pink high heels and a flirty, serif-laced font on the cover), social histories/commentaries, and really good contemporary fiction. I occasionally pick up a biography or other non-fiction, but mostly I'm a sucker for a great story.

Movies: I'm a Netflix devotee, and I'll probably evangelize it to anyone who's not. I lovelovelove movies, especially dark comedies, Bond flicks, magic realism, and "dude classics". These are a bunch of particular favorites: American Beauty, Closer, The Godfather, The Virgin Suicides, Requiem for a Dream, The Prestige, Casino Royale, Lost in Translation, Love Actually, Vanilla Sky, Real Genius, Y Tu Mama Tambien, A Clockwork Orange, Pan's Labyrinth, The Science of Sleep, Rushmore, Igby Goes Down, Wristcutters, Bridget Jones's Diary, Coming to America, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, Quantum of Solace, Heathers, Inglourious Basterds. I am not easily grossed out by gore or violence. I will watch Pulp Fiction, Scarface, or any other blood-soaked classic with you without complaint.

Music: I like lots of different stuff. I grew up with Van Halen, Def Leppard, and Led Zeppelin. I listen to tons of indie asshole-ish music now (Beck, Feist, Daft Punk, Phoenix, Interpol, Ting Tings, Iron & Wine, Wilco, Postal Service, Pete Yorn, M.I.A., The Strokes, BRMC, The Thrills, CSS, Bloc Party, Ryan Adams, The Knife, Badly Drawn Boy, Ladytron), but I'm also nuts about classic rock, French electronic, and some jazz. I also must admit to a shameful predilection for stuff like Lady Gaga. And I get annoyingly obsessed with James Taylor's "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" starting around Thanksgiving.

Food: Mmm, Jello. Italian. Indian. Doughnuts (get me a Boston cream, and we'll be friends for life). Chinese. Mexican. Pretty much anything with chicken and broccoli in it. Cheesecake. Cinnamon on whatever it can conceivably be appetizingly sprinkled upon. If beverages can be included in this list of favorites: Diet Dr Crack. (I've started buying the 36-pack from Costco. The 12-count just didn't make sense anymore financially.) RC Cola. Make all the NASCAR/Moon Pie jokes you want. It won't change my love for the Royal Crown. Apple cider. The kind from Williams-Sonoma, if possible. I bought two HUGE bottles of the concentrate last winter, and I eagerly await the first cold day of the year. I also love iced soy lattes from Starbucks, which is completely bourgeois, but I don't care. They're delicious. Cinnamon and two Equals, plz. I'm slowly making my seasonal switch to café au lait with pumpkin spice syrup.

The six things I could never do without

my iPhone, my cat, books, flip-flops, C&C California tank tops, my best friends

Runners-up: my MacBook Pro (have I mentioned that I am a shameless Apple whore?), moisturizer with sunscreen, my Bang & Olufsen headphones, Chacos, thousand-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets (I'm such a damn snob), Diet Dr Pepper, tomato basil soup and croque monsieurs from La Madeleine, my Canon DSLR

I spend a lot of time thinking about

how excited I am about my future. The reasons I shouldn't make another trip to Dunkin' Donuts. What library books I want to read next from the towering pile beside my bed. Horrible offensive things to stitch on another innocent canvas. Whether that chocolate silk Marc by Marc Jacobs cocktail dress will go on sale before it sells out in my size.

On a typical Friday night I am

probably kicking back on the couch with Netflix and a smile while my roommate and I bitch about the men in our lives.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

is that I can't find anyone to go roller-skating with. Also - I am insanely materialistic but surprisingly unshallow. My rampant consumer whoredom is all in good fun. One more thing - OkCupid, I'm not really all that kinky. You're wrong.

You should message me if

you want a ridiculously fun date. If you're into the kind of girl who will clean up nice, but never make you wait. If you want a girl who won't nag you or bitch at you. If you want a girl who's fiercely loyal, sweet to the core, open-minded, and sincere.
