I am a passionate city biker, a terrible surfer, a believer in food and the sharing thereof, and a dork. I used to dance seductively, but now I dance goofily. I grew up on the Big Island without toilets or power or running water, and I'm typing this on the first computer I've owned since my Commodore 64.

I've also lived in Minnesota and Hokkaido, Japan.

I love language and science, the natural world and the built environment, and am constantly learning things that most people already know.

What I’m doing with my life

I teach English to the sons and daughters of Switzerland, with an occasional Korean, Swede, or Brazilian thrown in.

Books:
You can have Gatsby; you can have Austin. I am not afraid to say that "To Kill A Mockingbird" is one of the finest books in the English language.

I am hopelessly pseudo-intellectual. Pop science, social science, and History are big for me (I know, I know).
My dirty secret is that I read a lot of what's in the Young-Adult section -- I love Neil Gaimen, Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrel. I adore Marjane Satrapi.

I am hopelessly behind the times on music. Though I like to think I'm open minded, I mainly like corporate Indy rock. Some artists: Gabby Pahinui.
