My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hello! I'm Ashley, a young(ish) man who is new(ish) to lovely sunny Hove but Sussex born and bred.

I'm a fun, easy-going guy and can find and make new friends easily, but something a bit more special is always nice, and thought this might be worth a try. I'm currently enjoying an active and sociable life in Brighton, another way of saying that I like finding myself quite busy. I prefer to make the most of my evenings and weekends, enjoying the company of good friends and the tingling feeling of new experiences. By day I'm a software developer. It's neat.

I'm an optimist, and am learning to live with the occasional disappointments that brings. The half-full mentality is more than worth it :-) I don't tend to stay unhappy for too long, and don't find it hard to invent ways to keep myself happy, so odds are I'm obnoxiously happy right now, so don't be afraid to message me!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I love words, and I have pretensions of being a hobbyist writer, but likely don't write nearly as often enough to qualify as such. I do take part in National Novel Writing Month every year though, which means I have a few 50,000 word proto-novels laying around and plenty of scraps of other things. When I die, maybe they'll be published against my will, and I will become the new Kafka...

I work doing what I enjoy and am good at, which is designing software. It's fun!
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I don't really have a problem with new people so I have a habit of introducing myself to people before they even know I'm there.

Though this section is usually used for pointing out favourable portions of ones face, so I'll say I have really awesome dimples. Not even gonna try to be modest on this one. You can see them in the pictures!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I read classics most often, and not just because they're cheaper. I have a great passion for the Chinese classic novels. There are four of them, and they're all great. I begun reading one on a whim, and found myself transported to a magical world of wonderment... I'm gushing now.

My favourite author though is Tolstoy, and consider War and Peace the most perfect thing ever written, and was most disappointed when it ended. It's too short! Among the other Russians, I enjoy Mikhail Bulgakov.

I read 1984 this year. It's not that happy.

Musically I was once such a rabid enough fan of Sigur Ros to name my OkCupid profile after them. I still adore the fellows, and have seen, and will see, them live, but find myself listening to electro a lot now, some of which is decidedly cheesy. M83, Errors, iamamiwhoami, and whatever's on my Spotify playlist right now.

Update! Having a bit of a BEACH HOUSE binge at the moment. For about three months... a long time straight now. Teen Dream is like, a really good album and that.

I hold the - now thankfully popular - view that Karl Pilkington is the funniest man on TV and radio. I've heard almost everything he's ever broadcast. Yeah...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
* The stars. I often look up. Also, one helpfully exploded at some point and made the planets and mountains and people and stuff, isn't that nice.
* The sea, though it is at the bottom of my road and I don't visit it enough.
* Spotify or one of those other sites that have all the music ever at your fingertips, what a great time to be alive.
* Lovely, generous friends, lucky enough to have met more than a few.
* Infrastructure
* Some kind of portal to the internet, I think I have three, one would do.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I'm one of those people that can happily spend hours chewing on the big questions. The really tasty ones. Saying that, my brain spends a lot of time on idle. If you have anything to say to kick it into gear, send me a message!
