My self-summary Propose an edit
I am an artist, singer, writer, dabbler, thinker and
man-about-town. I am no dilettante though, I just have many
obsessions. You can think of me as a low-rent playboy.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Going ever forward.
At the moment I work at a retail store down the street from my
house three days a week, but I am transitioning to a screenprinting
gig as well. I am working on my djing skills so as to start
spinning at Burt's in the near future.
I am going to school, and am majoring in studio arts. I've got
printmaking chops and can draw rather well, and I am going to learn
to paint real soon, which I am very excited about. It kicks my ass
sometimes but I do love to learn. That is somewhat part of the
problem, but I digress.
Most of my time is spent working on some project or smoking
cigarettes and talking with my friends. Unless, of course I manage
to waste an inordinate amount of time online, but I imagine I am
not alone in that. :)
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Detournement and subversion. I modify most everything in my
environment to make it stranger/better. This does not include
people however, or things that are not mine, generally. So please,
do not worry, I will not rearrange you house into some dadaist
performance space if you have me over and I will not try to
convince you that you are a winged turnip, although I hope any
prospective ladies would not fall for such shenanigans
anyway.
Drawing and screenprinting. I started screenprinting when I was 7
years old. I used to be a "professional" artist, with write-ups and
shows, to the point that my work became somewhat collectible.
Eventually I felt I was losing my artistic integrity and went
through a dramatic period of my life and so I stopped. It's a long
story. I have since resumed production, but my fingers are in a lot
of pots and I haven't really focused on anything aside from works
that are assignments for school.
I am very good at synthesis, sound shaping, recording. I perform in
a few noise bands using home made instruments and modified gizmos.
This is is a blast and something I am good at but it has never been
my main musical focus. Now, I am making my own brand of discordant
pop as The Nasty Business on but would like to get a proper rock
and roll band together so I can really holler. Oh my, if you can
play guitar, lady, we might have something going. . .
I love music, really with all my heart, and I really enjoy figuring
out what music I can expose somebody to that they will LOVE. I am
also pretty good at doing this. I get very excited sometimes when
talking about a song, or artist, well, anything really, that I
love.
I am told I have a keen wit. I must warn, however, I have a very
sarcastic sense of humor and a somewhat cynical worldview, so that
makes my tongue a bit dangerously sharp sometimes.
I was raised by a psychologist and am very emotionally perceptive.
This is very helpful but rather irritating for some as well.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My style. Very
distinctive, you might say. I wear a lot of black and white,
mostly. I almost never wear t-shirts in public. People have likened
me to a Dick Tracy villain, a bohemian, a pimp, or a
Scorcese movie drug
dealer. In reality I am only a dandy with eccentric
tastes.
There's also the matter of my cuffs. I wear three Native silver
bracelets and two bangles every day. The bracelets were gifts from
my mother, or in one case, one I inherited from my father, so in
addition to being awesome they have immeasurable sentimental value.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
(a) The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, A Clockwork Orange by
Anthony Burgess, Cosmic Trigger by Robert Anton
Wilson, The Theater and It's Double by Antonin Artaud, Naked Lunch
by William S. Burroughs, Howl and Other Poems by Allen Ginsberg, A
Season in Hell by Arthur Rimbaud, The Invisibles by Grant Morrison,
The Lucifer Principle by Harold Bloom. Phillip K Dick and Kurt
Vonnegut both really blow my skirt up, too.
Right now I am reading sincerely digging The Occult by Colin
Wilson. I've also gotten on a rather heavy Crowley tangent as of
late, his system is certainly a fun perspective and I agree,
Love is the
Law. The Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment by Thaddeus Golas
recently made me feel the world as I understood it. Nextup is a
Bowie-ogrophy.
Love is the
Law after all. I am also constantly reading comic books, of all
varieties. 'Cept for manga. Never really dug the whole otaku
thing.
(b)The Warriors, Wait Until Dark, Blue Velvet, Aguirre the Wrath of
God, The Wall, Blade Runner, Near Dark, Purple Rain, Sleeper, The
World According to Garp, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Taxi
Driver, Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now, Barbarella, Trainspotting, A
Scanner Darkly,Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Boy and His Dog, The Mad
Max Trilogy, Brazil, The Shining, Romero's Dead Series, many more.
The Dark Knight is now in my top ten films of all time as
well.
(c) David Bowie, Iggy Pop, The Velvet Underground, T. Rex, The
Cure, Bauhaus, The Smiths, Brian Eno, Funkadelic, Joy Division,
Siouxsie, Throbbing Gristle, The Beatles, Glass Candy, The Stones,
The Beatles, The Knife, King Tubby, Kraftwerk, Neu, Crass, The
Misfits, PIL, Wu-Tang, The Human League, Roxy Music, Lee Scratch
Perry, Vitalic, Soft Cell. Disco Funk Rockabilly Punk Rock Techno
Reggae and some of everything else.
(d) Spanish Rice, Green Chile Cheese Burgers, Enchiladas, Creme
Brulee, Ice Cream, Thai Green Curry. As long as it's sweet, spicy
or especially both I will like it.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Freedom. Friends. Communication. Music. Sarcasm. Love. I can get by
with these.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Whatever is going into my ears.
How fantastic it feels to be awash in the sea of the eternal
now.
What you are thinking, if I am looking at you.
How to cheat at the game of life, even if I am not playing to
win.
How to best do whatever I am doing.
But mostly: What To DO. I can do anything, I am convinced. All I
need is direction and passion.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Listening to music with friends, possibly at a bar, or smoking in
front of Satellite. It's also very likely I am fiddling around with
a drum machine and a synth and shaking my house. A good performance
is always worth catching too. I would like to get out more.
On some Thursday's, however, I hop between Atomic and Burt's. I
love love love to dance but it takes music that MAKES me dance.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I am a bit mad, possibly.
I'm okay with that, though.
You should be too.
You should message me if Propose an edit
If you dig on my tastes at the very least we can have a blast
chatting about music. That's best done in real life though, best
with music, but what isn't?
If your a clever one with a bent for the edges of the
artistic.
If you want someone to set fire to the world with.
If the idea of a sweet maniac intrigues you.
If yr in on the cosmic joke and wanna laugh with someone about
it.
So, if you wanna, please do hit me up.
