I am fun, passionate, and a little cliche?.

My Self-Summary

I'm an engineering grad student who is into music and the arts. I cannot imagine my life without music and I frequently wish that I had taken more dance classes as a child, though I'm trying to remedy that now. I love being outdoors and being active but hate exercise for the sake of exercise. I'm a fish, and will always need to be near the water. I'm a liberal because I believe in human rights and an atheist because I don't believe in magic. I love traveling and learning new languages. Spain is my favorite destination so far, but Germany is a very close second. I believe that people don't lift their heads to look up enough. You don't know what you're missing.

I like beautiful things, where beautiful is not limited to its classical definition.

What I’m doing with my life

I just moved from Boston where I did my undergraduate degree and am now on my way to a masters degree in mechanical engineering, likely continuing on to a PhD. My focus is in fluid mechanics and energy. In the meantime I'm exploring the United States (and world, to the best of my ability) to figure out where I want to end up.

I’m really good at

I would rather be decent at many things than great at any one thing. As a result, I am a decent sailor, trumpet player, scuba diver, pianist, dancer, chef, billiards player, skier, etc....

The first things people usually notice about me

Unabashed smile. I will apparently never be mysterious.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books
"The Selfish Gene" and "The Blind Watchmaker" by Richard Dawkins
"To the Lighthouse" by Virginia Woolf
"El Lapiz del Carpintero" by Manuel Rivas

Movies
The Hours, Shortbus, Brick, Much Ado About Nothing, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Amelie, The Boondock Saints, A Room with a View, Fight Club, The Rock, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Music
Chill folky-acoustic stuff, generally with male vocalists, classical, classic rock, I am physically incapable of being unhappy while listening to any form of jazz (even blues, incredibly enough)

Food
I pretty much think everything is delicious. It can be a problem.

The six things I could never do without

I can't really think of six things I couldn't live without, but I'd be very sad without my music collection, my down comforter, and a body of water nearby. I pretty much need my laptop, and I prefer to have my trumpet around.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

People and our motivations and behavior, primarily from an evolutionary viewpoint. We are a fascinating animal.

On a typical Friday night I am

at some happy hour with the other grad students or at a show.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm on OkCupid because my mom heckled me about not dating after my last relationship. She's worried I'm getting a little to good at being on my own, and she may be right.

You should message me if

You think all the previous statements are interesting, just want to hang out, and have no immediate relationship goals. At this point, I'm really just interested in getting to know different kinds of people and enjoying my limited free time.
