i've had an odd life, but a good one...
a geography of my life: india, missouri, new orleans, dublin, nyc, mexico, korea.

bone-dry sense of humor. daydreamer. i get along with almost everyone i meet. Peripatetic mind, jack-in-the-box energy.

love sports, playing and watching, especially soccer (gunners).
love to read.insatiable curiousity: ask a lot of questions.

teacher and writer.

lots and lots of traveling.

talking to everyone i can and hearing about their lives.

teaching myself to write.

always trying hard to become calmer and more compassionate.

spending time with friends and enjoying everyday pleasures: food, coffee, good company.

movies (off the top of my head): bottle rocket, rushmore, in bruges, layer cake, the believer, wet hot american summer, days of heaven, the thin red line, old boy, lots more.

tv: dexter, the thick of it, peep show, it's always sunny in philadelphia, sons of anarchy, no reservations, boardwalk empire, bored to death. i don't know: sometimes i like sublimating my brain in a thick, syrupy suspension of awful TV.

and eating is my favorite recreation (on par with sports). I'll try anything. i've had brains, snake, dog, gator, cockroach, brains, ants, squirrel, goat testicles, haggis...

I love korean food (esp. sundobu jjigae), italian, Indian, Thai...

i like to keep it simple, and i'm trying to learn not to miss all the things i lose...But I have a massive appetite for life: I love the world.

So fuck six: here's a litany:

It would be hard for me to live without my books and friends.

watching soccer, playing sports: running around like a little kid chasing a basketball, baseball, football, frisbee, or tennis ball once in a while.

Mangoes and bananas. Mackerel and tuna. Feta. Kimchi. Steak. Dark, leafy greens. Eggs. Garlic. Steak. Lamb. Pork chops and bacon. Yogurt, milk and cheese. Almonds. Cool water on hot days.

Weather. I like feeling pummeled by the elements. Spiderweb lightning. The smell of the earth before the monsoon and the smell of misted ozone when the rain comes. How thunder feels in your guts.
Fuzzy, gray, melancholic days. Wintertime besieging you and the coziness of being inside.

Swaddling myself in a gauze of too-much-sleep.

Waking up really early and watching the world wake up.

A really good, hoppy beer.

Planes, trains and automobiles.

time. it seems like no matter what you start considering eventually you end up in the same cul-de-sac confronted by the same mystery.

and food. i fantasize about what i'm going to eat later. i daydream about cooking. I like shopping for food: i love how it looks. i feel like a little kid every time I go to the supermarket. i follow food smells down the street. i'm epicurean: a little pleasure on the palate fires the imagination.

books.

travel. i always have the itch. i want to go to mongolia. i want to go to tierra del fuego. i want to go to burma. i want to go to israel, palestine and syria. i want to go an ice hotel in scandanavia.

with friends shooting the breeze

i'll tell you anything if you ask me. i'm pretty frank and i don't really have any deep, dark secrets-- a little mystery, but no Big Reveal.

You like to read and speculate about the world of ten thousand things; you like to eat; you want to have knock-down drag-out debates about politics and literature, but you understand that arguing isn't fighting; you're fun; you want to wander aimlessly; you feel light on your feet and have an easy laugh.

you want to try to find awesome things in the city that we have still, somehow, failed to discover.
