I am bright, a good listener, and at-heart-romantic..
My Self-Summary
For starters, if you were attracted by the screenname I've written
a test you might have fun with - it's tough though!
http://www.helloquizzy.com/tests/think-you-know-your-antiques
Before you read my 'essay', I'm allergic to cats; like 'em, but
can't be around them; know I'll miss meeting some great women as a
result, darn it!
Grew up in Atlanta so am a Southern gentleman at heart, a Ga. State
psych grad and moved into the HR world. I moved to NYC in '78 and
stayed for 22 yrs. Was a Corporate VP of a Fortune 100 for 13 yrs,
then did the entreprenurial thing. Also have spent time in Boston,
Chicago and 4 yrs in Philly. Along the way I owned two
antique stores and a
B&B in
addition to doing the corporate thing (LONG story). I've restored
two
Victorian
homes and enjoy doing home 'fix it' stuff. I also enjoy
entertaining and
cooking (still
need a recipe tho!) NOT a 'Type A', but not excessively laid back.
It appears many women 'my age' have a passion for 'the arts', their
kids, their job, cooking, pets and petunias. I'm not a vegetable
yet and hope there's a lady who retains a passion for men!
"Languages of Love" indicated my Primary type was 'Physical Touch'
- hand-holder/cuddler/+, so need a woman who's retained her
sensuality/
passion. Triva/Scrabble/Jeopardy player.
Bit of a 'wild child' early on, have mellowed, but still a
libertarian at heart. 'Eclectic' sort of sums it up I guess.
What I’m doing with my life
Have parents 91 & 88, so spend time helping them a good bit.
Also have a 25 yr old daughter, a sister and 3 nieces. The economy
is playing havoc with my profession (executive recruiter), but
guess I'm not alone there! Do considerable reading (historical to
sci-fi, finding hole-in-the-wall restaurants, heading to
Cashiers/Asheville/etc. Miss Lincoln Center, NY
museumsand Broadway
theater, but NOT the hectic
pace of the Northeast....Atlanta suits me FINE.
I’m really good at
I don't 'volunteer' a lot of this stuff, but since you
asked....again, 'eclectic' fits. Was a champion foosball player in
my youth, pinball wizard, badminton/tennis were loves. In two
honors programs in grammar school & H.S., was president of a
fraternity, taught hotel/motel management at a jr. college while
working for Marriott. Beyond all that 'stuff' (and more
importantly), I'm really a good listener and can 'connect the dots'
pretty well...sometimes dots that others don't see.....should have
been a psychologist.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm not an extrovert by nature, but am able to have a PBR with a
plumber or share a glass of port with a CEO. I'm not the first to
voice an opinion, but quite often add some perspective that sets a
new direction for conversation or puts a new twist on things.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Ayn Rand turned my head around after I worked for McCarthy in '68,
recent reads include Testimony and Cold Sassy Tree. Love all food
(that's a problem!) but love 'hot stuff', so sushi with wasabi,
'hot' Thai/Chinese food, and Mexican are all favorites. Love a nice
Italian/French dinner as well. From the South, can't pass up a good
BBQ restaurant! I enjoy anything from the Mills Brothers (ANYbody
know who they are??) through
DooWop and into the 70'-80's. Steely Dan
is one of my all-time favorites.
The six things I could never do without
1) Family - that's got to be #1 for anyone I'm interested in.
2) Honesty/Integrity - Ok, I'm not a 'holier than thou' type and
don't hold anyone to my standards, but I typically try to take the
high road.
3) Sensitivity - Think I'm more attune/aware of other people's
points of view, 'how they got that way', and can understand their
perspectives, even if I don't agree with it.
4) Women - Admit I don't feel 'whole' without a friend of the other
sex. I don't like sleeping alone.
5) Driving - Find it 'decompresses' me (NOT in Atlanta, but on
weekends, etc.), enjoy getting out and attending estate sales,
antique auctions, festivals/street fairs, house tours and just
getting into the car
'goin'
6) Computer - Do tremendous amounts of research in my profession
and love digging out facts/new sites/etc. Not tied to the thing
though, have too many other interests!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
LOL. Anything. I'm incessantly inquisitive, will read the back of a
cereal box if there's nothing else to do. Typically
multi-tasking...will be reading a book, holding a conversation and
watching TV at the same time. Doesn't mean I don't relish 'quiet',
listening to a waterfall, birds, etc. from time to time. I enjoy
absorbing information ...when a stand needs to be taken or a
decision made, I normally have a pretty good case built for my
position. I don't spend a lot of time on figuring out 'who I am'
anymore, think I've got that task pretty well completed.
On a typical Friday night I am
Do the
Trivia thing
at a local watering hole with a 'team' - PhD Electrical Engineer
working on missile systems, an intellectual property corporate
lawyer, a Mensa psychologist, IBM international auditor, etc. Great
people and a chance for us to be humbled every week!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Generally I'm VERY open with people, particularly someone I'm
trying to bond with in a relationship. When I'm in my rocker, I
want to have a smile on my face, remembering that there was nothing
I didn't try at least once. On the other hand, I do appreciate
shyness and have a
bit of that myself on occasion - but have gotten over a good bit of
it over the years...doubt many people would guess that now.
You should message me if
You've managed to read ALL of the above and have reached this
point! Obviously something's kept you intrigued!
I'd like to find that 'last' relationship, whether it's marriage or
just long-term/live-in, but I'm also open to friends - can't have
too many.
