I'm a work in progress and I'm OK with that. I'm a big personality
with a big heart. I know I'm not perfect, but I also know that what
I am is pretty damn awesome. I'm insecure, I'm anxious, I'm unsure
of a lot, I battle with myself pretty frequently. But I'm also very
confident that I'm always doing the best I know how with the best
intentions, that no matter what it is I'm doing I do it all with a
deep level of emotional involvement, I know a lot more than I give
myself credit for, and underneath it all I know the truth of
everything, it's just how willing I am to accept that truth.
If there's a simple way to sum it all up, it's that I want the
revolution of normalcy. I want a partner in life, I want children
to love and guide, I want a career that makes me feel like I'm
contributing in an inimitable way, I want a home that feels like a
foundation, and to never go a day without some form of love in my
What I’m doing with my life
What I'm doing with my life... that sounds so poised for judgment. Well at the moment I'm an Off-Air Print Designer for Oprah Winfrey Network, an interim contract job following being laid off of my former position as Lead Designer for an entertainment marketing agency, which had me spending a lot of time thinking about things like why Maleficent makes sense to partner with Yoplait yogurt and what that partnership might look like. I also teach Turbo Kickboxing at 24 Fitness, so I get to be a little cheerleader twice a week and practice hard love parenting with people older than me. Then there's the online publication I've written music reviews for for 11 years now, so that keeps me constantly abreast (I said breast) of all the dance music that's swirling around at the moment. And I dance with a gay country performance group called The LA Wranglers, so I'm a big fan of country music, boots, Stetsons and obnoxious buckles.
That covers the professional stuff. Personally I'm doing everything I can to be the best me I can be. I've spent a lot of time in the last year figuring out myself (go therapy go), figuring out all that goes on inside me, loving who I am as I am, identifying what I want, and understanding what it's going to take to get there, all while appreciating where I am and knowing that no matter where I want to be, right here and right now is all I have and that I need to love that above all else.
I’m really good at
Making people laugh, startling people with my honesty, putting the
hip hop back in country line dancing, parallel parking, working out
so hard I make a puddle, baking, keeping my apartment immaculate
without robbing it of character, making a beautiful image, saying
it all with a kiss, naming a typeface, cooking over a Coleman
stove, quoting awful movies, not being grossed out by everything
that makes most people wanna retch, wearing comfort clothes at all
times, not being cold, spooning, picking out dogs' eye boogers,
being a big brother, appreciating the little things, and letting
someone know I love them.
The first things people usually notice about me
A facial expression that says a lot more than I wanted it to
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
This is a hard one.
Books: Everything Christopher Rice has written, everything Mark
Twain has written, Adobe Creative Suite manuals, "The Kid" by Dan
Savage, everything Davis Sedaris, and Nutrition Information. I just
got a Kindle, so I'm reawakening my love of reading.
Movies: I coudn't possibly list them all. Airplane, The Birdcage,
Troop Beverly Hills, Showgirls, Scream, A Nightmare on Elm Street
(original and remake), The Long Kiss Goodnight, Die Hard,
Transformers: The Movie, Terminator 2, Easy A, A League of Their
Own, Cars, How To Train Your Dragon, Erin Brockovich, Jurassic
Park, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Death Becomes Her... it just keeps going.
I'm also obsessed with RiffTrax, so anything they've made fun of
works just fine for me.
TV Shows: Nashville, Better Off Ted, X-Files, Mystery Science
Music: There. Is. No. Way. But my favorite group of all time is
Everything But The Girl. Beyond that my favorite genres are EDM,
Hip Hop/Soul and Country. Disparate, right?
Food: Sushi, Bossa Nova, Z Pizza, cheese (despite my lactardation),
The six things I could never do without
3. Some way to make art
4. My bed
5. Lip balm
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I'm feeling and what it means.
On a typical Friday night I am
Teaching my kickboxing class then line dancing til I can't stand
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I stutter and it's a quality that tends to reveal my emotional
state a lot more than I'd like it to.
You should message me if
You love you and don't hold yourself back. If you want a family of
your own and won't feel satisfied in life without it. If you have
passions in your heart so strong that you have to indulge them just
to feel complete. If the idea of being out in the woods in a tent
sounds like one of the most romantic things you can think of. If
you know that a fantasy, no matter how grand, will never compare to
reality. If you take pride in taking care of yourself and actually
enjoy exercise instead of dread it. If a hoodie and shorts sounds
way better than a suit and tie. And if you know that letting a day
go by without having at least one really good laugh just isn't
