My self-summary
I'm very passionate about life, art and words. I've tried to maintain a child-like sense of wonder about the world. I enjoy great works of art, feats of engineering and afternoon naps on much the same level. I can talk for hours about most anything, but I also value conciseness highly. I love learning for its own sake.

I grew up in the South and actually had etiquette class in grade school. So I'm that guy that will hold the door for a woman, offer her my coat when it's cold and keep my elbows off the dinner table. It's annoying, really. I don't have much of an accent anymore. It's there if you listen for it. Mostly in the diphthongs; The soft 'r' not so much.

...and I'm really curious as to how someone could be serious about being agnostic. I think it's kind of fascinating that someone could be at all adamant about an idea that is essentially about being indifferent.

...and another point of curiosity is how people can answer the "Drinks?" question with "Sometimes" when they mention "a bottle of wine" in answer to the "On a typical Friday night" question... sounds like denial to me.

...and explain to me how someone can take astrology seriously and say that they have no religious affinity.

What I’m doing with my life
Apparently rekindling an old interest in 100yr. old poetry. I'm not really sure how that happened....

The mundane facts include building business systems, directing a soul and R&B band (RIP), traveling, producing and refining content for various projects, exploring this thing we call memory and how it affects our selves and our relationship with the world. Ugh, maybe that's a little too mundane.

Oh, and making up words like 'smarmalade', 'abassoonly' and 'geesly gaggle'. The last two I can even use in a sentence! "After their encounter with the geesly gaggle, the orchestra had to continue abassoonly".

I’m really good at
The general stand-outs are music, listening, fixing your computer, keeping my mouth shut, teaching kids to play an instrument. I can hold my own in a kitchen, even when I have to cook.

The first things people usually notice about me
Hmmm... a 6'2" man with red hair wearing a houndstooth jacket and a pair of Sambas walks into the room. What would you notice first? Probably the ascot...

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm not going to list anything here because I can't stand trying to read the litany of opinions that other people write in this section. It's not that I have no interest in what people enjoy. It just seems to be impossible to write about it on this site in a readable way. I also don't think that a person's aesthetic is necessarily a good indicator of their value as a human being.

But I will say, Naked City was the best band ever. And David Bowie's voice is like waves of awesome crashing over your head.

The six things I could never do without
Hmmm... how about 'Six Random Things That I Should Really Do Without'? That sounds much more interesting.

1. My Car. After living in Chicago without one, I often think that I'm crazy for owning one.
2. The South Korean Won. I don't think I'll ever go back, so why am I hanging on to that stuff?
3. Cigarettes. Yeah. That's a big one. I just get bored too easily and wind up smoking. One of these days...
4. Elipses. I was going to count the number of them on this page, but I became crestfallen when I reached twenty. Isn't that a great word, 'crestfallen'?!
5. Boxes of Books. I thought that I'd dealt with the book hoarding thing years ago. But it seems as though I'm starting to slip.
6. Grammar naziism. I mean, really -- I make up words like 'smarmalade'. What right to I have to look down my nose at anyone?!
(And grammar national socialism just doesn't have the right ring to it.)

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Is there is any way in which nostalgia is a Good Thing © and what the things we choose to remember say about us. Seriously, memory is a topic I find captivating.

On a typical Friday night I am
Well, no longer am I spending my entire weekend galavanting about the midwest, so Friday nights (and Saturday nights... and Thursday nights... and... never mind) are suddenly different after many years. So far, I'm learning to enjoy a quiet evening at home. Renewing my interest in poetry (reading, not writing) and getting used to cooking again. I seem to have missed every great art house film from the past twenty years, so I'm trying to rectify that situation as well.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
That I find the internet dating phenomenon to be fascinating. Call me kooky, but I find the things people write about themselves on these sites to be absolutely captivating. I've begun to realize that the answers people give to the questions on this site are generally more indicative of their thought processes and worldview than any sort of declaration of morality.

Also, I always wanted to be a cartoon character when I grew up. This is probably why my inner dialogue sounds like a Mel Blanc rehearsal tape...

You should message me if
If you're a mix of Audrey and Katharine Hepburn I'll be your Cary
Grant (or William Powell, apparently). If not, then at least you should play the accordion and love peaches.

Ok, you don't have to play the accordion. Wait... I take that back, you don't have to love peaches. The accordion stays.

(If you're still thinking, "Hey, there aren't anywhere close to twenty elipses in this profile", then please say hello.)
