I am using terrible, internet connection, and it's killing me.
My Self-Summary
I recently moved here after living/volunteering abroad and have
been, among other things, perfecting breakfast.
My mom was recently exasperated with her 74-yr-old friend's
unending struggle to find purpose in life, and said, "You get to
drink coffee, you get to look at flowers, you get to walk around!"
This captures the way I think about life, too. Sometimes I find a
paycheck on the ground.
Lots of folks on here say they're "brutally honest." It seems
unnecessary to me - it's possible to be honest, yet not brutal,
isn't it?
I'm communicative, empathetic, very liberal, not as unfunny as this
sentence makes me sound, and enthusiastically non-religious. I love
studying foreign languages, even if the discipline ebbs and
flows.
All the love in the heart of Maine would fit in one long, loveless
straight marriage. Those bastards would vote themselves back into
the feudal system if given the choice.
What I’m doing with my life
I spent a while after college single-mindedly putting out records,
playing shows, touring, etc. In the past couple years I've done
some teaching and working with immigrants, and now I work in public
radio. I still play music, too.
I’m really good at
Seeming stupid when I play cards, second-guessing my first
impressions, writing songs, adapting to new places, not being bored
The first things people usually notice about me
Harrison Ford (if we're hanging out)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
this week dan savage's podcast has accounted for most of my media
exposure.
some recent books I liked: Geography of Nowhere, Fun Home,
Gaviotas, Snow Crash, Sun Also Rises, Blood Meridian, and The God
Delusion
Love and Death/Hannah and Her Sisters by Woody Allen, Afterlife,
Celebration, Cronocrimenes, No Country for Old Men, Dr.
Strangelove, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Is Annie
Hall a given? I think so.
This question is a rabbithole into a universe where I don't shut
up...I figure that if I had to pick one song to survive humanity,
it would be "Santa Fe" by Bob Dylan (it's on youtube).
fake duck, pupusas, mint chocolate chip ice cream (these are foods)
The six things I could never do without
my friends and family
the public library
my four-track
that video about the blind guy who climbed everest
long mornings
my key to the zoo
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Songs, how to turn my nieces and nephews into little radicals
without my sister catching on, 30 Rock, Mitch Hedberg
On a typical Friday night I am
it always seems like friday night arrives like a baby on the
doorstep, and all you can really do is say "oh shit! what do we
do??" and by the next day the baby has disappeared.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm nuts about "In Too Deep" by Genesis, and my feelings were
validated when I heard the This American Life episode that Phil
Collins was on (Breakup Songs). This is actually the only private
thing there is about me.
You should message me if
i lent you money or you are a woman who is independent, sweet, and
passionate about something in her life
