My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I have the most amazing wife ever (found through OkCupid!) so friends only, please.

I believe in emotional consistency. I believe in spontaneous fun. I am optimistically realistic. I look up: words in the dictionary, information online, to groovy people, at the sky, trees, buildings. I LOATHE mayonaise. Feminism isn't a dirty word in my world.

Weird (very weird) and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I am curious, balanced, and taken.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Trying to make our new home functional and beautiful. Learning all about my wonderful new city (and trying to make it better).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm really good at listening, spastic dancing, expounding on literature, playing (druken) Trivial Pursuit, overanalyzing, emitting totally bizarre noises, reading out loud, introducing non-sequiturs and random bits into conversations, being a huge transit geek, talking LOUDLY, arguing passionately and alienating everyone, being genuinely nice yet capable of catty commentary, and shopping (it's a skill, people!). I also have what I have christened "Hair ESP," which basically means if there is a loose hair in my immediate vicinity I can detect it instantly, then remove it. Thank god I'm not OCD or anything, smiles.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Ok, straw poll says: my ass, the directness of my gaze, the vociferousness of my opinions, the intensity of my smile, my decibel level, and the assertiveness of my strut. I say: my gender, my race, my class, my age.

But really: The fact that my wife and I can't seem to stop touching. Ever.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

These things can never be catalogued in mere list form, but I'll attempt, with a caveat--this is only a smattering of my extensive opinion:

BOOKS: To the Lighthouse, Mrs. Dalloway, The Sound and the Fury, The BFG, Midnight's Children, Lolita, short stories by Borges, House of Leaves, Love in the Time of Cholera, Point of Purchase: How Shopping Changed American Culture, The Things They Carried, Angels in America, The Witches, Long Days Journey's into Night, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Beloved, Mathilda, Cities in a Global Economy, LOTR trilogy, The Lonely Londoners, The Remains of the Day, Black Sexual Politics, The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Brave New World, The Catcher in The Rye, Gay New York, and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (and Six More).

MOVIES: The Piano, Happiness, Before Sunset,Moulin Rouge, Annie Hall, Charade, The Big Lebowski, Man's Favorite Sport, What's Up, Doc?, A Fish Called Wanda, When Harry Met Sally, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, 9 to 5, City of God, LOTR trilogy, Some Like it Hot, To Catch a Thief, Spirited Away, Manhattan, All About Eve, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Doctor Zhivago, Mulholland Drive, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Desk Set, Triplets of Belleville. If you have a secret (or not-so-secret) obsession with 50's and 60's movies, this bodes well for our friendship!

MUSIC: Aimee Mann, Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos, Poe, Suzanne Vega, Madonna, Goldfrapp, Jem, Caroline Lavelle, Rachael Yamagata, Kings of Convenience, The Magnetic Fields, Led Zeppelin, ABBA, Henry Mancini, Annie, Bonobo, Rammstein, Edith Piaf. Generally, rock of all stripes (especially oldies), jazz standards, musicals, classical (especially Mahler, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky), heinous 80's music, techno, europop, plus I particularly enjoy compilations of foreign music---lounge-groove Tex-Mex with accordians and an inscrutable horn section? Yes, please!

FOOD: Sushi definitely tops the list, with everything else running a close second: Thai, Ethiopian, Mexican, French, Italian, Korean, Vietnamese, Indian… I think Thai renders Chinese utterly obsolete (apologies to anyone Chinese, but seriously, have you tried Thai?)

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
the INTERNET!!!, reading material, sunlight, stimulation (of differing kinds), friends, and glucose.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.

Navigating the city as a pedestrian.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Spending time with my wife, trying to lead our aspirational life.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I just reread this profile I wrote when I was 22 and I couldn't remember half of my "favorite things." Deleted.

Also, my wife may have been the one encouraging me to do the editing.
