Things I like: Traveling far and wide. Uninhibited chatter while sitting in the sun drinking iced tea or whatever else. Sweet funny people who don't get offended. Wandering aimlessly through the city. Creating havoc and watching disasters of the non-tragic variety. Going to forbidden places (like Cuba or the roof of my apartment). Contrarian behavior. Crazy rich people. Bondage.

Things I don't like: People who can't drop a line of conversation when it gets tiresome. People who can't tolerate disagreement. Co-dependent, drama, and jealousy filled relationships. Subjects in personal messages (what is the subject for a stupid flirty message - enough trouble just trying to think of something to say.) When drinking excessively is more important than people.

Things I do: Play ice hockey. Study Chinese. Exercise. Walk far and wide. Travel to many places. Eat out and try different foods. Make web sites go.

Some random travel highlights: - I went to a large and violent protest in Shanghai and thought it was fun (I'll send you the link to my write-up if you ask.) - I wish I had been in Tibet (and almost was) when the recent uprisings started. - I wandered around in rural Nicaragua. - I climbed Templo I in Tikal when I was 12 before they had ropes (I'm generally averse to REALLY dangerous stuff and stupid risks, and that qualified.) - I've eaten scorpions, snake, dog, horse, and turtle. - I lived for 10 days in a mountain village in Thailand where there were no other foreigners (and almost died.)

I read a lot of news and don't watch TV or sports. If I had a TV, I'd watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report. There are some great shows on HBO these days, but who has the time? I prefer to buy the DVDs in Shanghai and watch it all at once if at all.

I obsessively read news. The Economist is the best publication on the planet. I wish I read it all every week, but I don't.

I have strong opinions about lots of things, but try not to share them. I don't believe in arguing.

I smile a lot and seem a little innocent. I'm not.

I read a lot of random online stuff. I don't read as many books as I should. Recently I read The End of Faith which was mostly convincing. When I was younger and took the time to read more I really liked Herman Hesse. When I feel my brain starting to rot, I like to pick up Shakespeare.

Food: It's impressive what we've created over the last few thousand years from all that unlabeled ruffiage in the forests. My favorites are Asian - Thai, Indian, Chinese (not American-Chinese), Vietnamese, Burmese, Malaysian, etc. I still love the western foods, but I'm a bit of a masochist when it comes to Sichuan pepper and delicious curries.

Frequent travel, sunshine, beauty - in the form of nature, human bodies, and everything else, lots of flexible free time, hope and ambition, someone to call.

Whether I'm really cool and lucky or kind of lame.

I often wonder at what humanity has created with our naked bodies from the dirt beneath our feet. To go from a forest to an iPhone - how often do we really appreciate the absurd impressiveness of that feat? Given that we're working within the boundaries of our limited intellect, limited knowledge, and tiny short lived physical shells, maybe we are the Gods.

Meeting friends for a few drinks. Perhaps there are things I'd rather be doing than drinking, but that's what everyone I know does. Got a better idea?
