I am Shy, Stable, and Inquisitive.

My Self-Summary

I’m a stable, professional man looking for a stable relationship. I have a wide variety of interests, that tend to vary in emphasis from time to time. I am always trying to learn something new. Right now, I am particularly interested in learning more about modern mathematics. I guess that makes me something of a nerd, but I like to think of it as continuing self-improvement.
The name Axman4ever comes from another of my interests, playing guitar. I listen to almost any kind of music, but I generally play folk and older country tunes, with a bit of blues mixed in. I’ve written a bit, but don’t think it’s particularly great. Not anything you would call a serious musician, just hobby.

I consider myself a pretty good cook. Particularly fond of cooking Cajun (make a great Jambalaya, as well a chili). Enjoy eating out, but try to keep it as healthy as I can. Tend to prefer relatively quiet places where you can have a conversation, rather than the bar scene. Not that I’m opposed to going to clubs from time to time.
Staying fit is important to me, but not an obsession. My workouts tend to be short, and fairly intense, so it doesn’t take up that much time. I’ve competed in a few bodybuilding contests. No, I don’t use steroids or other illegal drugs. I started for my health, so why ruin it with something like that? I do that for myself. I don’t expect my partner to be into fitness or such. Its OK if you are, but fine if you’re too.

What I’m doing with my life

Right now, I’m in a sort of transition. I have a background in biology, and have worked in that area. That lead me to an interest in quantitative sciences (mathematics), since that’s become so important in modern biology. So now, I'm planning back to college next year, hoping to improve my background in advanced math. After that, either work in quantitative biology or teaching mathematics at either advanced high school (like AP calculus) or a small college. I enjoy life, but it gets lonely, so I’m looking for someone t share my future.

I’m really good at

Well, I guess I'm good at math, statistics, and analyzing problems in a logical way. Apart from that, I'm a decent, but not great, guitar player.

The first things people usually notice about me

Not sure about this. Probably that I'm rather shy, particularly when I first meet someone. I tend to open up pretty fast, and once I know someone, keep few secrets.
Physically, probably that I keep my head shaved. Not sure why, just did it and kept it up.
Either that, or that I like to wear jeans, western shirts and boots. And yes, I'm from a cattle farm and have actually worked cattle. But I can wear a suit and tie when it's appropriate.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Nonfiction books:"A Beautiful Mind" (about Nobel Prize winning mathematician John Nash and his insanity), "To Dance with the Devil" (about breast cancer work, particularly Dr. Suzan Love), science books, history.
Fiction: anything by Douglas Adams ("Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", "Derk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency"), "2001", "The Boy's From Brazil", "Billy Bathgate" and "Seabiscuit".
Music: pretty much anything. My collection has everything from Acuff (Roy, the country singer from 1930's) to Zappa (Frank, really freaky). My favorites tend to be old country (like Merle Hagard, Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride and that era) and classic rock (Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Jim Croce, The Who, Elton John, Billy Joel and a lot else). But more modern stuff is good too.
Movies: most types. Particularly dramas, action and documentaries. All-time favorites include “2001”, “A Beautiful Mind” and “Citizen Cane”, But I’m always up for a good movie in any genera.

The six things I could never do without

On the serious side:
Hope
Love (or hope for love)
Freedom to think as I please
Also:
Books
Music
My Guitar

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The future. I try not to dwell on the past, since there's nothing I can do about it. How can I make myself more like what I wish I were? What is the most important thing I have to do today, tomorrow and this week? What do I need to be doing to achieve my goals?

On a typical Friday night I am

Right now, probably sitting home reading, playing guitar or cleaning my house. Id rather be spending it with someone special. Having a nice dinner, seeing a movie, bowling, or just relaxing at home.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I was working in a laboratory alongside 2 women technicians when I spilled a bottle of methylene chloride all over myself (not dangerous, but needs to be washed off). I stripped, got under the safety shower, and then had to walk down three flights of stairs and drive home for new clothes wearing nothing but a labcoat that didn't cover very much. I was lucky - no one was coming up the stairs as I was going down. Fortunately, my co-workers were understanding about the need to wash off right away, gave me as much privacy as possible and didn't razz me too much about it later.
