My self-summary
I'm a free spirited and down-to-earth woman who is attracted to men who think outside the box (are alternative in some way...not extreme, but have taken the road less traveled or are at least willing to do that in the future). I'm looking for a long-term exclusive relationship with a kind, honest and loving man who is open to having a child(ren). If that's you, please read on : )

A guy friend wrote this about me:

"If there's one word to define Bethany, that'd be connected. Connected intrinsically with herself, her feelings, emotions and extrinsically with her friends, her family and her community. Her love for travel has taken her to places people only dream of going, and her love of learning has enabled her to embrace yoga, meditation and dance as her passion. She is the girl you'd go swimming in the bay with, bring her to have lunch with your family, and rock out at some epic house party - all in the same day. Connected, communicative, trustworthy and so much fun to be around - that's Bethany."

Some things I'm into:

meditation and spiritual development / dance, esp. Cuban Salsa / yoga / books / nature / hiking / camping / riding bikes / social justice / health and healing modalities / somatic therapy / energy work / tantric yoga / education / photography / art & design / travel / anything involving water / DIY projects / free spirits / hugs / good kissers
What I’m doing with my life
Professionally, my career has been in social work and education, and now I'm moving into psychotherapy. My job is at an alternative high school, and I study somatic, mindfulness-based therapy (Hakomi method). I occasionally teach beginners yoga to my teen clients or staff at the school. I'm also passionate about social justice, and support Bernie this year.

I take classes at community college to bring more art into my life. This semester, I'm taking ballet and Visual Design.

I was voted Most Prolific Reader in the 4th grade, and it's still one of my favorite activities.

I'm a Cuban Salsa dancer, and also enjoy Afro-Brazilian and other kinds of dance too.

I tend to go to farmers markets on the weekends and like to ride my bike around town.

I recently decided to make 1000 paper cranes, so far I've finished about 100. Want to help me?

Travel has been a big part of my life, and I'm always looking forward to the next adventure. One time I started a cookie business when I lived in Colombia. My friend and I made the PERFECT, taste-tested chocolate chip cookies and sold them in parks where people hung out drinking and smoking weed. We called it Las Munchies (with a Spanish pronunciation), introducing a new word to the Spanglish lexicon.
I’m really good at
Seeing the big picture
Trying new things
Finding beauty and humor in difficult situations
Being silly
Cuban Salsa dancing
The first things people usually notice about me
Eyes, smile, dimple, my friendly and curious personality
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae, Timba, Calle 13, some Kirtan, Arcade Fire, Silvio Rodriguez, D'Angelo

Movies: Anything by Pedro Almodovar, When Harry met Sally, Harold and Maude, The NeverEnding Story, Funny Face, Inside Out was amazing. Also, I just saw CitizenFour, the Edward Snowden documentary, and it was really great.

Podcasts/radio: This American Life, The Moth, Hard Knock Radio, Democracy Now

I don't own a TV, but there is Netflix. Greys Anatomy is my guilty pleasure- please don't judge : )

Books/Authors: Junot Diaz, Toni Morrison, Jumpha Lahira, engaging non-fiction, Dave Eggers, anything by Atul Gawande

I need to bring some New Yorker back into my life.

Sunday brunch with the NYTimes.

Gardening is fun and calming; I would like to move back to a place that has one again.

I generally avoid crowded bars and clubs, unless it is for dancing. A lounge or cafe is more my style. Or somewhere outside.
The six things I could never do without
"The cure for anything is salt water- sweat, tears or the sea."
-Isak Dineson
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whether or not it's worth it to stay out late salsa dancing. It usually is : )
On a typical Friday night I am
Maybe on an epic date with you, that involves a sunset hike (hopefully)...
You should message me if
You're kind, smart, funny, reflective and reliable. We have something in common, or you think we share a similar perspective on how to live life.

If it takes me a minute to warm up on the first date, ask some good questions. It really helps. Actually, ask good questions all the time. Women like that : )
