I have passionate opinions on things about which nobody cares. I also go out of my way to avoid ending sentences with prepositions.

It's been said that I have a cynical streak… by everyone. All the time. I have a relentlessly analytical view of the world, and spend a fair bit of time dredging up useless facts about it. This comes in handy during conversations over dinner and (especially) drinks.

Living it in half-month increments: my job has me doing two weeks in this country's vast frozen north, followed by two spent bumming around Van. It's like 26 weeks / year of vacation, balanced by 26 bleary-eyed weeks of the CAD and spreadsheets and inbox management that makes up a career in the engineering of mines.

Lately my time off has been spent skiing, reading, and hanging around with my friends and innumerable siblings.

I watch entirely too much TV, but I assuage my guilt about it by telling myself that I'm discerning in my tastes. The Wire, Mad Men, Breaking Bad… the usual selection of good TV drama… then there's the nerdier stuff: Firefly, BSG, Top Gear, South Park, and ATHF.

Music: Radiohead, Massive Attack, Portishead, Metric, Kasabian, Interpol, Arcade Fire, Daft Punk... not into any particular live music scene, though I always kind of wished I were...

Food: everything is better deep-fried, except steak, which is perfect just the way it is. Actually I probably enjoy everything that doesn't involve some type of meat and the word "pie" in the same sentence.

I love cats. I think they're goddamn adorable, and I will not apologize for it.
