My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I grew up in the land of 10,000 lakes, moved to the East Coast for college, and stayed. I’m close with my family and go back for visits, but I really love my friends and my life in New York City. Perhaps the only thing that would improve my life right now would be having someone to share it with. I’d also really love to have kids someday.

Here’s what some friends and exes have said about me: “He’s thoughtful!” “He’s a great listener and interested in what other people have to say!” “He’s cute!”

People have also told me that I look younger than my actual age, but apparently everyone on here says that. So I won’t.

And in keeping with OKC tradition, I'll add that I'm as comfortable attending a masterpiece at Lincoln Center as I am swilling beer in some hellhole surrounded by the worst sort of people.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Taking writing workshops, considering my options, and, I don't know, cooking? I’m grateful for my job—it’s writing-related and occasionally allows me to be creative—but it is, after all, a job.

Much more important: My new passport just arrived. Where should we go first?

Domestically, I'm looking for someone to join me on a train trip out West next spring...
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Inexpertise, making the most of things, maintaining perspective. I'd like to leave the world a younger place, to the extent I can.

(Okay, that sounds kinda dumb, but you know what I mean.)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
People tell me I have nice hands.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Movies? I like anything that has a sense of humor, whether it's a comedy or not. Hitchcock, the Coen Brothers, Werner Herzog, Bunuel, Howard Hawks, David Lynch, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson and lots of others. I love Breaking Bad and the Wire as much as anybody. Some other favorites are Freaks and Geeks, Louie, 30 Rock, Eastbound and Down, SCTV, the British Office, Colbert Report.

Some writers I really like are Alice Munro, Jim Shepard, Flann O'Brien, Charles Portis, Raymond Carver, Shirley Jackson, Jim Thompson, and Renata Adler. Joy Williams is a new favorite (Breaking and Entering is a must read.) Also English Romantic poetry and non-fiction.

Music is important to me, and my tastes are widespread. We can argue over our favorites in person. I'm deep into the Atlantic Rhythm and Blues Archive series at the moment.

I've never eaten Jell-O, and I probably never will. I love to cook, especially for other people--one of many reasons I like cooler weather. That and the fact that New York summers engender a primal despair in me I can't fully explain.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Whether I should finish the project I'm working on or start something new. Where to travel next. Whether to stay in my industry or do something of my own.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Most likely I'm out with coworkers at a bar or restaurant. I've been fortunate over the years to work with a lot of really great people.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have no sense of smell. And I've never seen a complete episode of Friends.
