I am quiet, curious, and alive.
My Self-Summary
At first I might seem a little on the quiet and introspective side.
But, inside I'm excitable, curious and adventurous, eager to
explore what the world has to offer... and hopefully give something
back. I'm kind of ridiculously happy with life at the moment. I
started a phd earlier in the year, and I’m loving it. Nothing like
escaping from the 9-5 drudgery into a mountain of ideas and time to
think (despite suddenly being much poorer). However, I can’t
survive without fresh air, open spaces, sun, and exercise. I love
Sydney for its beaches, humidity, fruit, and beer gardens. And, I
suppose I should say I’m not at all girly... I’m strictly a jeans,
t-shirt and sandshoes kinda girl.
I’m really good at
Burning my tongue when cooking risotto.
The first things people usually notice about me
Scruffy hair? no idea really.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Music: Iron and wine, Fionn Regan, Jose Gonzales, Wilco, Damien
Jurado; Davis, Brubeck, Coltrane, Billie holiday etc; and of
course, Beethoven, Chopin, Saint-Saens, and Bach.... where to
stop?
Books: I've read shamefully few fiction books lately... but I loved
Kafka on the shore, the leopard, fight club. Anything by Nietzsche,
Foucault, Judith Butler, Donna Haraway...
Movies: I'll watch pretty much anything, but I love offbeat
comedies like fargo (anything cohen bros), lars and the real girl,
stranger than fiction; and plain old ridiculous comedies like
wedding crashers and zoolander, dirty rotten scoundrels. Lost in
translation, or anything with bill murray! And, I have to admit I
also love a good sci-fi or vampire movie (but not twilight!).
Food? fig and goats cheese salad - with a drizzle of honey
dressing, spinach and feta filos, bananas, mangoes, berries... Much
as I do like meat I've recently turned vego.
The six things I could never do without
philosophy, sunshine, mornings without hangovers, wine, good
conversation, seeing the ocean
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Pig to human transplantation - and the social/cultural aspects
thereof (my thesis topic); donna haraway, exciting new tofu dishes,
and how I really will feel good after I go to the gym.
On a typical Friday night I am
mmm, sadly most often watching a dvd with a falafal in hand...
studying maybe. If i'm lucky having a few cold beers or dinner and
wine with friends...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm shamefully addicted to 'glee' and I've recently tried to start
singing with my guitar - much to my neighbours horror I'm sure.
Don't worry, it will never happen in the direct presence of another
human being.
