My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Born in Brazil, spent most of my life in Denton, got my BA on the West coast, my MA on the East coast, and now I'm returning to Denton to get my Psyc PhD at UNT! I love my field and talking about it, or talking about research in the other social sciences. I love to laugh and have long conversations over a cup of coffee or something. I also like to play instruments/jam... cello is my all-time favorite instrument!

In my spare time, I enjoy making pottery, watching movies, and going on night walks. I can't say whether I'm shy or outgoing; that depends on whom I'm around. I like to be expressive and my sense of humor can be kinda vulgar/gross sometimes.

I've got a wish list for my dream guy: first of all, I don't want to date someone who's a pessimist and dislikes people. I love human beings, and I want a relationship with someone who isn't judgmental. Also, pro-choice is something which is VERY important to me, and it's pretty much a dealbreaker if you're against it. Finally, I tend to lean towards the progressive side of the political spectrum; those values mean a lot to me :)

apart from that, I want to get to know you in person and see if we hit it off.

Oh, another big thing about me is that I live by relativism, and I try to bring it into my friendships and romantic relationships as much as possible. That is, I tend to set aside the idea that there's an "objective truth" that exists, and I prefer the notion of truth being negotiated, agreed upon, and relative. When conflict comes up, instead of asserting that one's own perspective is "correct," or "true," I'm really big on acknowledging the validity of other people's perspective (as hard as that can be sometimes).

...but yeah, if you wanna know more, just message me!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I want to become a therapist. This decision was motivated in part by my desire to reduce human suffering. I just feel like we're all in this together, and I want to do my part. I want to leave the world in a better state than it was when I entered it-- like they say, we aren't inheriting the Earth from our parents, but borrowing it from our children.

Before moving to New York, I spent two years living at home gathering experience to prepare me for grad school. One of the things I did was volunteer for a nonprofit agency for survivors of abuse as an emergency response advocate for people who were just raped. Basically, I'd be sitting around at home doing my thing, and suddenly, the crisis line operator from the agency would call my cell to dispatch me to one of 3 hospitals in the area to be with the survivor. The survivor would go to the hospital to get a special kind of physical done on them to make sure they were okay. My job was to tell the survivor about local resources and just sort of be there for them and listen to whatever it is they felt like talking about.

...I was involved with the agency in this program for almost two years. It definitely had a major impact on shaping who I am today and is probably the most empowering experience I've had in my life so far.
