My self-summary Propose an edit
I've met a wonderful woman, so I'm no longer seeking
dates.
I have many qualities that women find irresistible. Somehow this
has remained a well-kept secret, as evidenced by the lack of women
swooning at my feet.
I'm your basic guy, reasonably handsome, with a few extra pounds in
the form of a gut. I'm not fat, though I admit to a certain
embonpoint.
My dress is casual. I'm not one who is equally comfortable in jeans
or a little black dress. Of course, I'll dress up for formal events
such as a funeral, if it's my funeral.
I play classical piano, love mathematics, speak foreign languages
(in many countries, English is a foreign language). I speak, with
descending fluency, Russian, Hebrew, and Spanish. I've also studied a few more
exotic languages like Latin and Sanskrit, but really haven't had
much opportunity to chat with anyone in those. Te audire no
possum. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure. That means, "I can't
hear you, I have a banana in my ear". Mrs. Crotty, my Freshman
Latin teacher, would be proud of me. Not sure why I didn't take
Spanish like everyone else...
I play the piano reasonably well, for an amateur. George Bernard
Shaw said that hell is filled with amateur musicians. It was
unclear whether he meant they were being punished, or adding to the
torment.
I have many other, widely varied interests. It's difficult to
characterize what they are - eclectic, perhaps, New Age, technical,
photography, music, literature...
I don't like sports. I really *hate* sports, in fact.
I love to ride my bicycle, both for the exercise and to
help clear my mind.
I have two seriously weird cats, both strays. They're cute, highly
affectionate, and one is actually intelligent (a quality not
universally present in cats). The other one isn't as dumb as she
looks, which was a great comfort. They're part of the package.
Seriously, don't even bother if you hate cats, or if you're
allergic. I'm allergic to them, too, so you'll get no sympathy
about that.
BTW - I notice on the sidebar (to the right)[No, OK Cupid moved
the farking sidebar] it says I own cats. This is compete
nonsense. No one owns cats. If we are fortunate, we are
graced with their presence.
I gave my TV set away to a friend some 30 years ago and haven't
watched much TV since then. I consider it one of my better ideas.
Taking apart my microwave was one of the other sort of ideas. That
was one of those times when curiosity overcame common sense. Call
it tuition. Once the cats started playing with the pieces, my poor
microwave was doomed. I did get some really cool magnets out of the
deal, though.
In my headline I said I was sensual. That is a lie, a shameless,
bare-faced lie. It is nothing more than a fantasy, what I'd
like to be true. the fact is, I am fairly clueless when it
comes to women. I love them dearly - all my friends are women - but
they remain lovely mysteries to me. On the other hand, I love to
investigate mysteries of all kinds.
The woman I seek should be around my age, give or take, weight
proportional to height, gentle and with a kind heart. Good looks
are great, but a kind heart is essential. I love a brainiac. She ought to have a good
sense of
humor or I'm likely to become tiresome. I really love to laugh.
I think it's great medicine. Unless, of course, you're laughing at
some big guy on a Harley.

Unfortunately, OK Cupid doesn't handle the right-to-left formatting properly, so this text is somewhat off. Sad, really...
Я люблю петь русские народные и романтические песни. Никто не хочет услышать мне петь. Очень жаль!
Если хочешь, пиши мне. Я предпочитаю писать по-Англиский.

What I'm doing with my life...
Rediscovering who I am and what I want. Kind of lost touch with
that somewhere along the way.

Сквозь туман кремнистый путь блестит;
И не жаль мне прошлого ничуть;
Я ищу свободы и покоя.
Я б хотел забыться и заснуть.
Я б хотел забыться и заснуть.
Но не тем холодным сном могилы...
Я б желал навеки так заснуть,
Чтоб в груди дремали жизни силы,
Чтоб дыша вздымалась тихо грудь;
Чтоб дыша вздымалась тихо грудь;
Чтоб всю ночь, весь день мой слух лелея,
Про любовь мне сладкий голос пел,
Надо мной чтоб вечно зеленея
Тёмный дуб склонялся и шумел.

I'm really good at...
...pretty much whatever I put my mind to. I know, sounds
arrogant... It's not so much skill as stubbornness.
Playing classical piano.
Talking to people.
Making people laugh.
Making music.
Comforting people who are hurting.
Befriending feral cats and people.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me...
...I don't really know. Ask them.
I'd love to say they all notice my commanding presence or my
scintillating personality, but the truth may be more like, they see
my zipper's down or I've got spinach caught between my teeth.

The six things I could never do without...
I've learned that there is precious little I *can't* do without,
but that some things make life worthwhile...
Love, food, water, people, cats, health.

I spend a lot of time thinking about...
...why the wealthiest country in the world allows their homeless
and other unfortunates to sleep under bridges and in the
alleys.
How we can promise to care for our soldiers, and then refuse them
treatment so that they're often the ones who wind up living in the
streets, homeless, addicted, or mentally ill.
What I need and want in a long-term relationship.

On a typical Friday night I am...
Riding my bicycle, working out, browsing around on the Internets,
playing my piano, reading, programming, refurbishing old computers,
playing with my cats...
Mostly I spend them alone. I don't care for bars and "meat
markets". I like to just hang with one or two people at a time.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here...
I have problems recognizing peoples' faces - it's called
"prosopagnosia" or faceblindness. I have a Website about it at
Faceblind.com.
I actually bought a rhinestone collar for my cat. I used to laugh
at people who did things like this. But she does look cute in it...
